I would like to know what the consensus is concerning these condensers as overheads (drums), and also for acoustic guitars. For $99.00 each cardoid pattern how would you rate the sound as drum overheads and acoustic guitar situations. I know they have the behringer omni's around and I'll probably pick up a few of them also but I'm primarily interested in opoinions regarding the octavias. Thanks,Greg

It's what I use for overheads. I've used AT4033's, AKG C-1000's, C-3000's, GT AM-52's and more but the Octava's are my fav. I like the omni caps for that application. Very smooth and round sounding which is what I want for cymbals. With digital, that makes a big difference.

If I use the octavias I plan on buying the cardoid pattern versus the multi pattern only due to the price.$99.00ea for cardoid only versus $149.00 ea. for multi pattern.Have you used the cardoid pattern and do you believe they will still sound well rounded like the omni capsule?

I have all three capsules and the attenuator (VERY important). There's a bit of a difference between the different patterns but it shouldn't mess with you too bad. Something else to consider once you have the 012's is purchasing a LOMO M-1 or M-3 large diaphrame capsule for it. Turns it into a VERY nice vocal mic.
