Also, if the roland's inputs for 1 & 2 are those combo inputs you could just direct out from the mackie strait in.

Hitman,

You are aware that digital craps out over 0db almost NOW?Right?
I have seen it in this forum where people with an analog way of thinking, where you can go to +3 or 4db can be applied to the digital input and an overload occurs. Digital is a lot less forgiving than analog, and can shut right down.
I'm not calling you a newbie here, I'm just not sure if you aware of this. Nominal levels s/b around -12Db as an average. That gives you enough headroom for the peaks. If you look at the meters on the VSunit you will see the 12db mark I believe. It's also on dat recorders. If you compress and level out the program you can bring it higher. At least on popular music. Not on classical.

Your mackie won't distort at 3db but the recorder will.
You may want to calibrate the levels if you can, to get a common ground.

"...but definitely stick all your mics through the mackie first."

Agreed.

Also, going-out the Main Out will work but you could also use the balanced Direct Out of channels if you make or buy cables to go from TRS-XLR.

Lastly: "...keep the phantom power consistent throughout the mics..."

What do you mean?

consistent phantom power

I mean using the same phantom power source for all the mics; that is all the mics are powered from the mackie's phantom power, as opposed to the mc012's being powered seperately from the VS...do you follow? but i wiil try plugging every thing into the Mackie first and then bussing them out. I'll keep you posted.
Hey ffmada, I know about the 0dB limit on digital stuff but actually i'm not getting enough signal to the VS...So all mics into the mackie just might be the solution...
talk at ya soon...HITMAN.
