Hey Guy's, What I have here is a detached garage that we insulated and drywalled, painted and put carpet down and turned this into a party room\ Studio. I was listening to some songs today and noticed as I walked around the room that I was getting soom echo going on. I know they make sudio foam\wedges, to cut down the ehco, kinda expensive though. My girlfriend was looking at that stuff and said "why don't you go down to walmart, and buy some of them egg crate foam pads that go on your bed" So thats my question to you. I was thinking about cutting them up into 1'-0" wide pieces and put them around the perimeter of the ceiling and down the corners of the walls. Would this cut down on the echo or would it be a waste of money?

Yo FLASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSH:===================

No, it won't be a waste of money and it will attract chickens to your pad.

[I couldn't resist.]

A decent room is a combination of diffusion, like from furnishings (book cases are a good example) to break up the patterns, and well balanced absorption. Thin foam works well in the upper frequencies but it takes depth to tame the mids and upper bass. Thin flexable paneling, soafas, ect, help the low range. 2 (or better -4) inches of fiber glass in fairly balanced down to the low mids and it's cheap, but needs some labor!

Green Hornet Green Hornet.... If you would have said Chicks my girl might have got mad...... She thinks I get in anough trouble by my self. Seriously though would it be O.K. I'm sure the foam in them bed foam pads are not as thick as the real deal. but she may have an idea there.

O.K. Guys, just wanted you to know how the project turned out. So far I think it's the best $63.00 I spent on the studio. You would have to see the room though. My girl's a little upset but she's starting to get some idea's already though. Like I said this started out as a party room, Grim reaper hand painted on the wall, 3 tones of purple walls, blue sky ceiling. (4) 4'-0" black lites, black lite posters. I think I reverted back to the 70's. And now all of a sudden I have this pink foam around the whole ceiling and down the corners. Oh well, just in case you wanted to know.....

Hmm

Get one of your girl's gay friends to come by and look at this catastrophe. Pink foam and the grim reaper?!!! Or watch a Christopher Lowell episode on HGTV. He's very gay, but has some good decorating ideas. No really. Lmao!!

Okay, seriously though . . .

I think a professional looking space will motivate you to record professionally. Then again, maybe that reaper dude has the right vibe for what you record. Do you listen to Slayer?

I just think my friends would laugh if they saw this room, with like pink shit hanging from the ceiling, and you call it a "studio".

Ha!!

Okay, I might be an ass*ole, but at least I don't have a Molly Hatchet tattoo and gun rack to go with my pink foam.

Hey Audiodog, Guess you can't read. Oh, by the way Hatchet's one of my favorite bands. In my message when I was talking about the pink foam I said, "My girl's a little upset but she's starting to get some idea's already though." The foam right now is only up temp. She's taking it back down and dyeing it to the color we want.... Oh well, don't even know why I would try explaining this to you. Anyway in case any body is wondering, like I said best $63. I ever spend, it's amazing how much clearer the music sounds. And clears up a lot of the echo in the room.

You can also hang curtains around the walls to kill echoes. That way you can open the curtains when you want more room sound or if you get stuck with pink curtains you can tie them up when the cool company comes over.

Curtains and egg crates and blankets geeez get out the straight jacket you've gone crazy flash....lol

just kidding my studio/bedroom walls are covered with these things from time to time.....rock out!

Hey guy's, curtains, didn't think about that. But, there are no windows in the room. Took the all out when we sound proofed it. Anyway, Soon as it's done and I get the web site finished I'll furnish some pic's. Never had anyone here that didn't like the room. I don't know what my fashionation is with the Grim Reaper but I like walking in and seeing a 6'-6" reaper painted on the wall.
Rock in Roll all the way. Oh, I've meaning to ask has there been any kind of poll to see how many people play guitars, drums ect. ect. That might be interesting to see who's on the site!
