The 80's was a big black hole for me, but this song reminds me of those that I enjoyed. Depeche Mode?? Would that be right?? Anyways.. love the main melody line for the vocals, especially the chorus.

You've got a lot of great suggestions already, the biggest being the snare. I like what Greg said about the fill snare being a better patch than the rimshot beat driving snare. Then centering it.

Bring the vocals up a little more. It's gets buried in the etheral synths at some points.

Cool song, Keith!! Is there a Club mix??

nope but I may do a classic rock mix chili :D

thanks for listening man...and watch those black holes in life ;)

I don't think I've listened to any of the earlier mixes of this song, but here's my thoughts.

I agree with Greg that the vocals are too reverby. Turn down the verb and turn the vox themselves up.
The guitars sound cool, but they're probably contributing a lot to that mid-range wall of mud you're getting.
The constant crash cymbal is probably muddying things up too.

I liked the synth lines. Especially the solo. (Was that a synth solo or a heavily modified guitar solo?)

It's OK Chili, I don't remember much of the '80s either. (I'm going to neglect to mention that I was 5 when they ended...)

This is the first mix Steve :)

I hadnt noticed much muddyness let alone a wall of mud?? Has anyone else? Ill have a listen again though

the vocals are meant to be like that im afraid, lashings of chorus, anolog delay, verb then through a filter..I've taken a little of the filter off but I'm quite happy with them now though i never altered the volume after taking away some filter gain..Ill fix that

the synths lines are both from a JV 1080...the first is pretty much a standard pad...the more TB sounding one is a concoction of my own :)

thanks for listening

So ive had another go at the drums...ive reigned in the kick (a little) changed the snare sample to a ludwig black beauty..toned down the hi hat and changed the crash

Ive also had a go at EQing the tracks a bit better to see if I can get shot of that muddiness, cleaned the vocals up as well as toning down the synth solo

no time for the bass yet Nave, though Ive got the treble sound I wanted out of it

sorry for the levels, Im on headphones today...I just wanted to know if I'd got the drums right before i send it to the record company

lol :)
