So I am checking out Nuendo, which I think kicks major arse! But being a relative newbie in the field of recording I am having an issue on playback.

This is my setup:

I have my Behringer Truth Monitors plugged into outs 1&2 on the Delta 44.

I have a cheap-o home receiver hooked up to outs 3&4 that I am using has a headphone amp.

I have my Blue Tube Preamp plugged into my BlueMax Compressor that is then plugged into my INs 1&2.

In Nuendo I can get playback from my Truths no problem. But I cannot get playback through my "headphone amp". I know it isn't the receiver itself. It is something that I am not doing right in Nuendo.

For example, if I want to lay a guitar track down I cannot hear what I am playing through my headphones (then again, I cannot hear what I am playing through the Truths either). Or if I have a track layed down and want to put the vocals in the song I cannot hear my voice through the headphones.

PLUS

Once I am done recording I cannot listen to what I have just done through the headphones, but I can through the Monitors (Outs 1&2).

Any help would be great!!!!

Thanks!

Hi again, Nut.net

Hmmm...I don't use Nuendo, but I do use Cubase- another Steinberg product. I've also fiddled with soundcards a bit.

Have you played with the soundcard's software to see if your outs 3&4 are activated and have their volume turned up?

In Cubase, sounds can be sent to either the master channel or some other "bus"- I don't have extra outs on my soundcard, but that's where my manual tells me they would be. In Cubase I find this in the Master Channel mixer. Check Nuendo's manual.

Have you tried switching the plugs for the monitors and the amp? That would tell you if the outputs are even on.

Other than that, I'm not familiar enoug with Nuendo.

Good luck!
Chris

I use Nuendo. I think I can help!
You need to route your output busses correctly.
I have to fire up my Nuendo to do this,, hang on...........

Try doing this:
1.) First open the Devices>Device Setup>VST Multi-track dialog box from the pull down menu. See the little box where it says Direct Monitoring"? Make sure it is checked!

2.) Second, under Devices>VST Outputs Make sure Bus 1 is routed to "1 A2..."

3.) Third Make sure Bus 2 is routed to "3 A2..."
That will route your inputs 3 & 4 to Bus 2.

4.) When you are recording your second instrument, and want to hear the first through your headphones, make sure that on the VST Mixer, down at the bottom, you have the tracks you want to monitor through headphones, routed to Bus 2.

Don't forget, that when you want to mix down, you need to re-route all tracks on Bus 2 back to Bus 1 so that you can hear them through the Monitors. Remember, that is done at the bottom of the VST mixer.

Let me know if this helps, and if not, we can try some other things!

Cool man! Everything is looking good with my routing stuff. I can now hear the tracks I have already recorded through the 3&4.

Now on to monitoring. I have Direct Monitoring checked. I can monitor when I unmute H/W 1 in the M-Audio Control Panel, but then I am monitoring through the M-Audio Control Panel's Monitor Mixer, not through Nuendo. Meaning, I can turn shut Nuendo down and I can still hear myself through the monitors when I speak into the mic. I need to be able to monitor only through Nuendo so I can route it to my Headphones......

Sure would be nice to have an external mixer right now but I was told I didn't really need one.....

Thanks!

OK, I don't use M-Audio. I have the Nuendo 96/52 sound card.
But, if you mute the M-Audio card, you should be able to monitor thru Nuendo, just make sure, that your Channel/Bus assigns (at the bottom of the VST Mixer) are routed to the appropriate bus.

It's true, you don't need a mixer, (I was told the same thing) but I have a Yamaha O1V as my external mixer, that I basically use as a control surface to control the faders in Nuendo. You can get around it by opening the animation tracks in the VST Mixer in Nuendo. They work really good, but I'm kind of a hands on guy, and like being able to mix with a real mixer.

I mixed this song using the animation tracks in the VST Mixer:

This was recorded in Nuendo too.

I have my system to monitor for "Surround Sound 6.1". So I had a hell of a time with bus assigns!
