Question: the Rode NTK has its own power source, so it does not need phantom power right? But it does need a preamp to bring it up line level right? If I ran it thru a mackie mixer that would bring it up to line level right? or do I need a dedicated mic preamp? I'm not asking about quality issues on the preamps just if I it'll work? thanks

True, the NTK does not require phantom power from the board

Yes, it does require a Pre-Amp

Yes, if you plug the NTK into the "pre-amp in" on your Mackie Mixer, you can then use line out on the mixer

No, you do not need another dedicated pre-amp other than the Mackie Pre-amp.

thanks gents, sometimes a guy just needs some reassuring advice to help clear the glazed over coating on the brain which tend to accumulate over the course of a weekend or 2.

hey, if anyone is still listening, I have to crank the trim on my portastudio when using the NTK, so thats why I was asking about the preamp, I'm recording acoustic guitar alot so I'm wondering if the mackie will be able to give me a reasonable level without having to crank the trim on the mackie as well, I read a post once where the dude was down on the mackie with a condensor & acoustic, (but who knows what he was doing)anyone have any experience with that? thanks

the mackies are just about as quiet as a preamp can be.

they provide plenty of gain for condensers.

:p
