I am going to buy one of the two...

I tried the NT1 but cannot find a place where to try the B2 ...

Who tried both and can help me (have to record vocals and guitar)....

Thanx...

I thought so, as when i tried the NT1 I thought it was too "nasal" sounding, if you get what i mean....

Anyother for the B2 ?

out of those 2, the B2 all the way....

one question, how can you narrow your choices down to 2 mics and never have even heard one of them?.....

other choices if they are available to you are the Studio Projects C1 and the Marshall MXLv67......

I heard only good things about the C1 but the Marshal sucks (a lot of people say). I am trying to get a mic myself, and besides the NT1 and C1 I came across the M177 from CAD. Don't know much about it though, but at least it's not made in China. The B2 isn't really worth the money (my oppinion). They use their shortcomings as qualities: "optimized by a light presence boost, it gives you a clear, natural sound, as if the source were right next to your ear." <= that's bullsh@t; it only means that it doesn't have a linear frequency response (as it should). I'm sick of mic manufactures saying that their mic gives you "that big, in your face sound". In other words the sound captured by the mic occupies more space in the frequency range making the final mixing sound like sh#t. Perhaps I'm too critical, but if I'm gonna pay for something I'd rather get the best for the bucks!

about Gidge's question "how can you narrow your choices down to 2 mics and never have even heard one of them?..... " ... simple; just read all the reviews you can find. I don't have access to any of those mics. What am I supposed to do? Wonder what mic to get and never get any of them because I can't narrow my choices?

Of the two, I'd go for the B2 - it supposed to have the same guts as the NT2. I have an NT1 though, and I don't have any complaints as to its performance.

EXACTLY! I heard the ones that my local (and for local i mean even 100 Km from home) shop have, and I just cannot get hold of C!'s or B2 as they tend to be available on order only.

This is how it is here in Italy, I would LOVE to be as lucky as you are, to go down the street and try 20 mics, and plenty of bargains.

So i READ and READ and READ, hope the majority is competent (which luckily here it is), and follow their advice.

Then i go and try what i can and compare THAT to what they say....

So i think I will go for the B2, as my price tag is that.

Or if there are any other helping voices out there...

Another contender will be the Studio Projects B1, list price about
$100!! I spoke with Alan Hyatt, the owner, over the phone for the
first time (very cool guy by the way). I was kidding him about how
"kids" could afford his mikes now and he very sincerely told me that these will be pro level mikes too like the C series.
He's finishing work on the VT-1 mic pre first, after that the B series
mikes will hit the streets.

It's back to the drawing board for me!!! Yesterday I had finally decided on what my setup would be: Aardvark Direct Pro 24 and the C1 (although I needed 90$ more for that). But now everything is fu#@d up again. After I read about the VT-1 everything got upside down. I don't know anything anymore.
Here is my problem if anyone can help. I have about $650 and I want a mic, a pre and a good sound card (with balanced inputs for the mic). If I get the C1 and the VT-1 I would be left with approx. $230. What 24/96 soundcard with balanced inputs can I get for that kind of money? I was thinking about the Delta 1010LT, but that'll be about $150 more, and by budget is strict. So, do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Thanx...
i tested 14 mics a few days ago, the b2 is for my taste (& the most people who send me back her ratings) not a good choice.
if you wanna get a really cheap mic, try the
adk a-51s
its not like a neumann, but much better than the behringer b2.
an other cheap mic with a better sound as the b2 & a good qualitycontrol is the audio technica 3035. some people liked also the akg c3000, for my taste the highs of the c3000 sound a bit distorted, but the overall-rating is much better than for the b2

The ADK is not sold here in italy... I find it in Switzerland (where it is produced, i think) and it costs 220$... (not SO cheap, as it is maybe there)

It is as cheap as the B2, so if the sound is really better...well i would think about it.

Thanx a lot.

Just to know.... which was the vox file of the b2 and the adk?

Mail me the name, if you don't want to tell others, as i have to buy a mic within this week for some recordings...

in europe you can buy it here:
http://www.musicians-gear.com/cables_such_index.htm

the adk's are china products & adk is a american company.

all i did was ask a simple question.....

and Ive heard both the C1 and the Marshall and i cant tell the difference between them....good ears can tell a slight difference.....dont go by what you hear, unless you hear it from www.homerecording.com ......

i would get the C1 and the DirectPro...it has 4 nice preamps that will work well for you...you can add a diferent preamp later....

I have a Mindprint EnVoice, and was looking for a C1, but cannot find a reseller in italy...

So i may switch to a MXL, or maybe an ADK51s (thanx monty)
