OK. I signed up with these guys. I uploaded a tune that struck the lost Chord with Me.

They have no fucking Navigation. Period.

Please check out my tune on page 10 of the Alternative selection.

Thanks.

I'm looking for reviews of my music and of the methodology I've employed to distribute same.

Well, Doc, I'd kill to hear some damn reverb in your music on occasion... :D

I dig the field of the instruments, panned well. I'm still trying to figure out your methodology behind your compositions, they're allways something unexpected...

(I also turned it the fuck up here at work (got a "hooptie" Altec Lansing system that gets VERY loud). People gave me some strange looks, so I played it again... louder. hehe.

REVERB!!!

btw, the site works alright now. Just don't stream the music, it gets slivered and the repasting of these slivers doesn't work (for me on a crappy Systemax here at work). That's the hi-fi stream, don't know about lo-fi... The download icons finally work, and the file I got played fine.

Very cool man. I like the piano sound, and that quirky clav like synth sound. This is intresting stuff for sure. You should get some stuff together and send it to the sci-fi channel or TLC or something. This stuff would be wonderfull background/ theme music for some science or biology program. Actually you should be the host... that'd be cool...

As far as the sounds, these seem to fit more. Did you get some new sounds to play with or have you tweaked some things?

Doc I gotta say, could you make some of these a little longer? he he. :D It's like a snapshot. When does the movie come out?

Hey Dr. Checked out the song. Interesting, to say the least. I think I need to take my meds now... ..Or maybe now, I don't need them! I noted that you're an Environmental Chemist. I put in ten years trying to save the environment here in CT working for the State DEP - Superfund stuff, level A and all that. I found it very frustrating that I could come up with ways to clean up hazardous waste sites, but the bureaucracy simply wanted to study the shit to death and not act on the problem at hand. Oops, got off the subject, but I don't get the chance to talk "old" shop with many people these days. What's your take on Methyl Mercury (Connecticut doesn't have a clue). Oh yeah, the song. It's neat stuff. Tom.

Hey, you're back on a roll. I like the tune a lot, which I came across by accident while I was exploring nowhereradio. I like that energetic, insistent figure that drives the whole thing. Johann Sebastian would have liked it too. This is really exuberant, confident stuff. Is this one on the new CD, and how much money do I have to send you this time to get a copy?

Oh, and yeah, nowhereradio is a bit difficult to navigate, but I think I'm going to put the next upload there: they're new and modest; I like the appearance of the site; they're small for the time being and your music will stick out for a while; I can use Winamp and don't need to use NO STINKING REALPLAYER!

Hey, cool! ;)

The first thing I thought of while listening to this tune is that it sounded like Shroeder (from the Peanuts cartoons) had got a little funkier and darker with his playing. I liked it!
This is now my second "fave" of your tunes, right behind my beloved "Cat Brains".

Most excellent!

Hi there, just would like to inform you guys of a little something that you may not know.

I am an independant musician, and am unimpressed with the currently corrupt music industry. As a result, I got upset, and formed NoWhere Radio.

I am the SOLE programmer, operator, owner, bandwidth provider, hardware designer and funder. If you guys want to diss something that is labeled clearly at the top of the page 'still under construction', fine, but instead of criticisizing, offer assistance. I work two full time jobs to support this sucker and get little to no help from those who I am promoting.

Completion of NoWhere is entirely dependant on expense, and how much time I have free. Latest projection that I can make is about June, if I don't hit any snags. Until then, feel free to contact me, or read the list of planned features (where all your complaints have been addressed for months) in the forums on NoWhere.

Hi, Waldo - hey, nice site for a one man operation. As for the criticism, don't take it personally, just make the adjustments. :) It was funny when I got seriously interested in the site - I was trying to sign up, but clicking on the obvious things didn't work - I couldn't figure out how to sign up, and I was thinking to myself, "Well, okay, where's the entrance? It's gotta be here somewhere." :D Anyway, I got signed up finally, and I'll upload some stuff soon.

I hardly think being called a cheap ass fuck head is positive promotion.

You Should Relax, Waldo....

...if you want to have any hope of developing this thing.

Nobody called you a cheap ass fuck head, unless it was in some post that got deleted or something. Rather, Drstawl just gave you free exposure in a very popular website to a lot of people who respect Drstawl and who are often looking for ways to publicize their music. Really, you should be grateful.

If you want the artists to help promote the site you should ask or require them to do so.

I assume you know that you are competing with at least a dozen other sites. Yours is appealing because it's small and has a worthy mission. But it is difficult to navigate and the ads are a little in-your-face annoying. Now, was that a personal insult?

Doc, nice piece. As usual, a little beyond my comprehension. I'd like to see you put a little more blood in it. Thanks for putting it out there.

I was very relaxed, but at the moment, considering giving up.

First of all, 'Cheap Ass Fuck Head' is at the very top of this page. 'Free exposure' is great, when it's not negative and personal. And I coulda came here and posted all about it long ago if I wanted.

As far as making it a 'requirement' to promote the site, hell no. I'm not jumping on the corporate boat. I have asked for assistance, obviously you have never looked on the NoWhere forums. The assistance required however is not in promotion, rather development.

Next, I've been in the .com business for years, and would like to ask how a single ad on the bottom of the page (unlike the one you are looking at right now with ad top, bottom left, middle and right) is 'in your face' or 'annoying'. For christ sakes, they aren't even on every page!

Difficult to navigate? Fine, but read the G.D. forums, the FAQ etc.. It's simple, has been addressed long ago, and is in the works. I've only got so much time and getting very few 'thanks'

Rather I'm getting posts such as yours stating 'you should be thankful Waldo'. You tell me, what the hell should I be thankful for?

I'm sorry that I am getting upset, but so much negativity makes me think it's a fight not worth fighting anymore.

Easy Fido. Man, has this thing has got your panties in a bunch, or what? I checked DR's tune on your site when he first posted the thread, and even bopped around a little while I was there. I've been waiting and waiting and waiting and...zzzzzzz Oh, sorry. I've been waiting for some songs to get "approved" on that other site, and like I said in an e-mail to "them", the longer I wait for "them", the more time I have to check out other MP3 posting sites. Low and behold I stumbled across your site. Cheap-ass f#cker-doodle dink-wrinkle, or whatever it said in the poll. I see a lot of differing opinions on a lot of issues around here, and I'm an opinionated bastard! Some I agree with, some I don't, and most, whether I agree or not, I check out for myself! Sometimes bad publicity is better than no publicity at all. It usually makes someone curious enough to check it out and decide what they think for themselves. And when the smoke clears, you're just a doo-doo head with a sucessful site. Don't let the bastards get you down... ..damn the torpedos... and all that stuff. Hope this helped. If not... ..Piss off. (just kidding)

Tom

>I was very relaxed, but at the moment, considering giving up.

Damn! Don't do that. I didn't think anybody would vote for "C".

>I'm sorry that I am getting upset, but so much negativity makes me think it's a fight not worth fighting anymore.

Well you're right about that. Would it help if I officially apologized for the poor attempt at humor in the poll choices? I really am sorry you were offended.

>Difficult to navigate? Fine, but read the G.D. forums, the FAQ etc.. It's simple, has been addressed long ago, and is in the works. I've only got so much time and getting very few 'thanks'

If that's the case, why didn't you vote for "B" with an explanation? That's really what I was fishing for.
I expected a bunch of other people to check out the site and let me know if I was all wet about the site layout.

>I don't, and most, whether I agree or not, I check out for myself!

That was the response I most expected.

And if it'll help you keep up the good fight, I'd like to add, "Thanks!"

Doc, you are such a cheap ass fuckhead, sometimes. :D

Waldo, I know drstawl - the poll was humor, honest, although I can see where it could have been interpreted as criticism if you don't know him. I want your site to thrive because I like the look of it and because some of the bigger sites are problematic, and I think variety's good for the whole scene, and most of all, because it solves a problem for me right now - a site I like where I can upload my stuff.

Tell you something else - if drstawl's posted stuff to your site, he likes it well enough to take a chance on it. He uploaded stuff there, he didn't walk away. That's a thumbs-up.

Finally, as for this thread vis a vis nowhereradio's reputation - check the responses to drstawl's initial post - were they about nowhereradio, or were they about his music? His music, right? In the eyes of people here, the site wasn't an issue till you made it one. :)

Now, back to my own personal pique: doc, you gonna send me a copy of the new CD or not? I been way ting... (Feedback: the methodology you've employed to distribute your music should include the postal variety, no? :))

Waldo, I'd like you to do well with this, I really would.

First of all, listen to Dobro's last post.

The problem that I'm having with your posts is that you are making everything about you. Example: I tell you that I found the ads to be annoying and your response is that you have been in the business for years and no they're not. Do you think I said that just to annoy you or do you think I experienced it (it was the ad at the bottom of the pop-up box that came up at the top of the page at one point)? If you're going to be offended by comments like mine, I think you should give it up for the sake of your own mental health. I mean it, you really have to look at where all this resentment is coming from.

One other thought: Sometimes people have a choice between being right and being successful.

I hope you do succeed, man...the world needs more competition in this area.

But I think you need to chill out. I'm sure it's frustrating to see your creation critiqued. We're all artists around here and almost all of us have experienced the same thing at some time. But you should have a thicker skin.

I don't think there's a single person around here that wants to see you fail. But if you can't provide information on your site that's easy to find and get to...that's your fault. If it's going to succeed, it needs to be easy to use, easy to navigate, and full of content. The harder you make it on people, the poorer your chance of success...I'm sure you know that already.

I'm glad you've come here though. I know I speak for almost everyone when I say "welcome" and please come back. This type of networking is imperitive if we're ever going to compete with the MP3.com type corporate monsters out there. Good luck!

Told You So!!!

See Waldo, the flame war was probably just the shot in the arm you were looking for, and didn't even realize it. I posted my songs there this morning. C'mon you guys, Dance with the devil... ...if you dare. Tom

Seriously though, check out the site. Although it may be in it's infancy, It's a great start, with a lot of ideas for improvement already in the works. Hey, at least when I posted the songs at this site, I was able to actually listen to them as well.... ...To me, that's a huge improvement from where my music was previously posted in itself!

Okay...

...Fmm: how would you compare it with Java Music and BeSonic -- they also seem pretty musician-friendly.

I suppose I should maybe write out what was intended a little more clear since my head isn't swimming with any sort of anger at the moment.

The initial issue I had was with the 'cheap ass fuckhead' thing, as someone who doesn't know the Dr., and as other people that don't know him would have seen the post, the humor was missed. This is what upset me.

I watch forums, outside sites, and artists sites on a regular basis in whatever free time I have to check out possibilities, suggestions, comments and thoughts. This is how I found this, and kindof got my goat.

In a way, I was requesting more information, or suggestions as to how to improve the navigation. It is addressed in the NoWhere forums, with requests for suggestions attached. The forums are very BETA, but I'll post the direct link:

http://www.nowhereradio.com/discus

All of these things will be addressed, but since I do not have a team of 50 people to say 'make things better' to, it will take some time. It's not as simple as it looks, or everybody would be doing it.

The next thing, directed to LI Slim, regarding the ads. The 'statement' was not so much a statement as a question. (would like to ask how a single ad on the bottom of the page (unlike the one you are looking at right now with ad top, bottom left, middle and right) is 'in your face' or 'annoying') I missed the question mark, so I can see how it might be misconstrued.

The 'pop-up' is not really a pop up in the advertising sense, rather there is an ad on the embedded player that was created to avoid cross-browser compatibility issues. This is the most expensive part of NoWhere in that the streaming costs more than all the ads put together, so the ad was put on it to attempt to make up for the loss. I attempted to keep them low-key by placing them on the bottom of the pages, however will be forced to move them to the top in future versions due to the advertising agencies regulations. Not much I can do about it, but I still wish to keep advertising down compared to other sites (and think I have done okay so far).

I don't mind criticisms, but generally don't appreciate degrading comments, rather constructive advice or suggestions that can aid the developement. After all, I am doing this for people such as yourselves.

Thanks to all for the positive thought, let's get together and make something that works, okay?
