Just another guy, really.
Just recorded my first project with a Zoom R16, and overall, I am pleased. But, there is this one thing that I can't seem to get it to do, and it's driving me nuts. Let me try my best to explain what this is:
The project was a live concert of a bluegrass band. I started the R16 early, and captured the Master of Ceremony warming up the crowd. For my final mix, I want to remove most (but not all) of that banter, leaving in only the introduction of the band. After that intro, the band was not completely ready to start playing, so there is about 20 seconds of what is essentially dead air between the intro and the beginning of the first song- I want to edit that dead air out, too.
I made set points for the beginning and end of the band intro, and one just a second or two before the band finally starts playing. Then, I made notes as to the set point numbers and the reading on the time counter, so I knew when to start, stop, and re-start the mix to the master track. I went to the set point right before the intro, set the 4 tracks I had recorded at the event to "play" (green LED lit on tracks 2, 3, 7 and 8,) and armed the master track by setting it to "record" (red LED lit on Master track.) Then, I pushed the transport buttons "REC" and "PLAY." When the recording got to the end of the intro, I hit transport button "STOP," and fast-forwarded with the set point button to the set point I set for the beginning of the first song. Then, I hit "REC" and "PLAY" again, and recorded the rest of the 4 tracks to the Master track.
With me so far?
All the LED's, the counter, etc. indicated to me that all was well, but when I saved the program after recording to the master track, and then played it back, the intro was not there. I only had the actual concert recorded to the Master track- no intro.
So, please walk me through, step by step, what I should do to record this concert like I want to- band intro AND actual concert. I find NOTHING in the manual on this, and thought I was doing the right thing to make it happen- obviously, I was not.
Thank you.
(I originally composed this and sent it to Samson/Zoom support, so if it sounds a bit strange here, that's probably why. Frankly, I figure I will get a much better response here than from, ahem, "support." Is there even such a thing anymore?)
