So since there's a few of you who MUSt think I'm a moron for liking the Behringer B-1, what do you think about the Superlux CH-8A? Is this a very crappy mic too?

I have had pretty decent luck with it as well...

Jimmy

I have borrowed a pair of Superlux SD condensers for overheads, but they don't sound great. Work good for PA uses, though. If it works good for you, I'd go with it.

Superlux....super...lux....super lux.
Slackmaster, have you seen the Royal Tenenbaums? "Wildcat...Wild...cat"

I apologize if the above makes no sense to you.

Yeah Royal Tennenbaums is one of my alltime favorites!

About the Superlux mics: they got excellent reviews in Sound on Sound Magazine (www.sospubs.co.uk). Those mics are made by Tenlux, Taiwan, hence the name. They're also maketed as "Red5Audio"; in Germany they're sold by Thomann as "T.Bone" microphones. Anyway, I actually won the top of the line tube LD "T.Bone" in a competition, and it's a really cool mic. A bit on the bright side, but not thin. It's great on low male voices; I wouldn't use it on overly bright voices. The shockmout is really a killer, by the way, the best I've seen so far except the original Neumann shockmounts, of course. You can't use them on any other mics, though.

I had a ch8a and it had a rattle when shook. By the way if you read your stuff that came with it you would have said that it comes from shawnee Ks. Just 5 miles away from me.

You know your mics!!!

Yeah, well, Germans are nerds ;) I got a SP B1, too, and the two complement each other beautifully. I'm still in need of a pair of small diaphragm condensers (1/2 inch capsules), though. Can't wait to see/hear the upcoming SP models.

Well we will have them for the AES Show in Amsterdam...Maybe you will be there :D

No such luck. I have to stay home and work on my dissertation :( More nerd stuff...

I want to get another one of these mics.

I compared it to some of my other grad-student-budget stuff (like the Behringer B-1) and it is a sight above.
