At first I thought it was teh NYC rappers, but its not - its the "real" rap dudes - the ones wit writing skill . . . the next wave of production (i think) is geared at the ORIGINAL RECIPE . . .

sampling an "old school" rhythm,

hard drum kit but not 808boomin


Busta Rhymes - throw the water on em (old school break beat album)
Game - "paying homage" or whatever its called (old school melody from ??)
Maino (?$@#!%#$@) - hi haters -- (old school melody from ??)
Sheek Louch - whatever that love song is he got (betty wright i think)

I dunno if I see it yet, but I hope so, cuz these days production is pretty low quality...
 
shit is oversaturated so I don't hardly listen anymore. I was talking with a dude on this just yesterday.

EPMD - gold with NO radio.
N.W.A. - did what the hell they wanted to and still got massive fans.

Just two examples that will always have classics....even today with the "advances" in production.

If its so good these days why the hell is sampling SOOOOOO popular?

idk bout ya'll but i will take a beat that has a sampled melody with a drum kit made up of sampled drums off vinyl over a scott storch beat anyday. (no offense to storch considering he is nasty at beats)
 
i dont care what a dude make it wit - if its hot n git me hype - im on it! - i was just commenting on what i think a part of the industry is gonna do to try and revamp/revitalize the "lame" factor (for lack of a better term)

Its a free download. the first 4 or 5 tracks are real good.

I live in australia and think some of the artists here are alot better than alot of U.S trash at the moment. Look up and album called bullet and a target by bliss and eso. That album is off the hook.
 
Do you guys really believe the music is "low quality" or are you going along with the trend of don't know any better?

There are many stuff out there with not so good lyrics & production, but that doesn't mean the new era since the 90's sucked. I believe much of these cats are just bullshitting, jumping on a bandwagon to knock the next man's hustle & talent.

That said, why specifically does a song suck?

I was thinking the same thing...

I don't think its anything new.. just artist tryin to find a niche to get more listeners and fans..

I don't think anyone artist music sucks.. I do wonder how the hell do some of the artist get deals that just seams to not deserve a deal.. but its all about who you know..and makerting yourself or your artist at the right time and the right way..
 
tru - to some extent. however i do think that some songs are worthy of the suck label - but its totally a personal preference. like i really cnat stand souljaboy - i really think his lyrical ability is on the "suck" level - but at the same time, his songs have a certain "jingle-like" character that make them memorable. for that - i have no justification to say they suck - they are NOT MY CUP OF TEA. ppl say "suck" and "wack" the same way people say "gangsta" - its just a term to point in the direction of a person's general disposition and attitude towards a subject or issue or person . . .
 
the only reason souljaboy has a jingle in that song is for this reason only. the subliminal image in your head that plays when that song plays. think about it for a second.... he flowed that song like his favorite nursery ryhme, eeni meenie miney mo. say the lyrics of that song to the way u say eenie meenie miney mo and you will see that the song fits and therefore when u hear it u get that "jingle" effect cuz it's subliminal in your head
 
I'm not pointing fingers lol, just for those who do find themselves to do that, to sit back and view their own views & make rational judgements. ;) It's good to help producers & artists open up their creativity & not limit themselves because they go with popular belief. For producers & artists we could analyize it & make things better. I just see a lot of, yada yada something sucks & people jump to say names of people who.
 
yea i agree with you 100% mindset but you cant sit there and say you was feelin the souljaboy album cuz you and i both know it was garbage, there are some people who just flat out suck and shouldn't be allowed on the air but due to corporate control they will only play the "hip-hop" they can control therefore if you want to be on the air take notes cuz u need to sound like this, is the message they are telling us. i'm prolly gettin onto topics i shouldn't be going into but it's all good cuz we family here lol
 
Corporates wanted the rap off the air. What's the best way to do it? Start a trend with younger guys who are more influenced trying to make it and then refuse anything that is on the air.


Look at Lil' Wayne. Back in the day, he was a lot harder than he is now. It's all about marketing. The new gen don't know much about the gangsta rap classics that we do. Therefore, the older cats who been in the game for a while have to adapt to the new. Change is inevitable. Those who couldn't keep up fell off. Look at DMX. But that doesn't mean that ALL of your tracks have to be that way, just your singles. Look at Plies, Young Buck, Chamillionaire, etc.

i mean i feel its all listener preference. i dont like soulja boy and the whole snap music but cant really knock it cuz they found a way to make a buck and the south fell in love with it and in a way created their own "sub genre of rap"...i dont believe it has anything to do with labels lookn to rid of older rappers or "old-school antiks" its simply that times change. do i feel that more lyrical talent is evident in what would be called east coast rap? yes. production is going to change and styles are going to change...kanye for example he uses old songs as samples but makes them appealing to his listeners...labels are going to search for what they feel will make them money and if their are a million people that sware they got the next big dance song and thats whats hot right now, than thats what their gonna look for...lil wayne switched up his whole style in the last few years also. i dont think if he was rapping now how he was 3 yrs ago he'd have sold 500,000 records the first day (juss an opinion) but he found something that people fell in love with and ran with it

i juss feel times change..music changes..production changes...whether we feel its REAL music or not is our choice
 
Yall hitting it straight on the pin's head. Change is inevitable, a good reason why hip hop/rap has stayed here for so long, and will continue to do so. Beyond personal preference we make music for the rest of the world to relate to. Some of it's a hobby where we make the music for ourselves pleasure.

If a majority of a crowd feels the music, and their mood is changed by that musical piece, than it is doing it's job. Their lives are moved.
