the original was by Duncan Sheik, a dude from Charleston, South Carolina. Most of what I record here..at least lately has been really heavy. Since upgrading to my current equipment, I have not recorded any accoustic guitar so I wanted to give it a shot. I called up a friend, who now lives in Charleston, but was home for the weekend, to see if he wanted to record something. The song was his choice. He is playing all the guitar parts. drums are loops. My friend, who is the lead singer of his band, is sick and unable to sing, so I had to give the vocals a shot myself. anyway...this is not the entire song...just a little over a min. We were going for quality...not quantity....

anyway...here it is....

Sounds pretty nice to me man. You have a pretty cool voice. It fit's this well. It's also well recorded. Everything seems pretty even in the mix. I'd like to hear it all. For a mellower rock tune, it is cool.

Real nice guitar work.

Vocals are right on.

Mix sounds good. The instruments are thick and strong, without overpowering the vocals.

I don't listen to covers on the forum much but as I didn't know the original I thought I'd be able to listen without bias.
You're right this ain't heavy but it has gravitas.
The electric guitars sound good with lives & voices seemingly of their own.
The acoustic guitar sound are really well recorded - well done.
The vocals - not hidden in the music nor on Deathmetal's door - are excellent. Both in recording and in performance. A voice & style that can be repeated.
As to the mix - sounded fine to me - I'd like to hear the rest to comment thoroughly though.

thanks a million man....just a quick rundown on how everything was recorded....this is all budget gear....

accoustic guitar, 3 mics...a 57 about halfway up the neck and a pair of MK012's at the sound hole...one over top of the other and one aiming at the neck side of the hole and towards the top string, and one aiming at the bridge side and towards the bottom string.

Electric guitar was all Behri V-amp Pro.

vocals were through a 57....I just set up a short stand on my computer desk in fron of my computer monitor...with my Wharfdales on either side...right in my face not worried about bleed....double them....I have other vocal mics but the 57 was right here on the desk...

ART MPA PRO on all the mics....with the exception of a channel of M-audio Octane on one accoustic mic

Nice Tune!.....I have never heard this tune before so I wouldn't have known it wasn't an original!

The guitars have been captured beautifully with the miking technique you employed! The shimmer and brilliance of the acoustic guitar stands out and is very clear and crisp. I would porobably soften the tone slightly with a reduction in the mids ever so slightly. Nice work on the guitars once again!

The drums could be livened up a tad in my opinion, they are a little buried and slightly flat sounding.

This is aimed at being constructive criticism and I enjoyed your singing as well.
Is there Bass guitar on there?

If you need some lead work later on I would love to submit some for your perusal!


Once again nice work and I look forward to hearing the whole track!

very good....I was wondering how long it would be before someone asked about the bass....I dont own a bass guitar...and we didnt have one available that day. I just cranked up the lows on the V-amp and dropped the highs on a good clean channel. The bass line that is there was played on the top string of a six string guitar....
