I've been rejected from both the ensemble choir and the musicals at my school for the past two years. Granted, the competition is intense, but I just can't hear the flaws in my voice (I guess it's a "it always sounds better in your head thing", but even on a recording I can't hear anything).
Below is a sample of my voice (sorry, it was an audition for something else so it is in Japanese, not English). If anyone could help me out with this, it would be much appreciated. Be as harsh as you want!! :)

Hard to say exactly without some type of background music to compare with, but there are definitely some pitch and control/accuracy issues, within the context given.

The note held/or not held at 14 seconds, is a given. If you do not hear that, then there is a problem. Work on your consistency with hitting notes accurately.

:)

I think Jimmy is right. Nothing bad I could hear (as in not correctable). You should probably record yourself with some reference material and practice on the areas that are giving you problems. The best way to get better is to record, record, record and then listen, correct, listen, until you get to where you can hear the correct pitch when you are singing.

Find some reference material in your range, record it and compare it.

Hope this helps.

Ach, it's negligible man, to me anyway.
The following passage is a little bit loose, but certainly not bad. Maybe there's just a really high standard?

Some people 'join the dots' on quick passage and just kinda assume it all went to plan; It's as if they are listening for landmark notes and the rest just blur in between.

Set a metronome and sing this thing about 20 or 30 BPM slower. Obviously it'll sound stupid, but you'll be forced to be more accurate because you'll be lingering on the shorter notes more.

Like wise, slow down this recording and listen to it. Very brief flat/sharp notes will stand out for the same reason.

I've been doing that with people lately. If there's even a hint of a pitch problem we sing the whole song double strength and half speed.
Works every time.

I can't speak to choirs, but I can certainly speak to musicals. Unfortunately, I don't speak Japanese, so I have no idea what you're doing with this song. What musicals did you audition for?

I auditioned for Carousel and In The Heights - but I am guessing it was my dancing that really threw off my audition because that is definitely my weak area. :P

this was really helpful!! thank you so much, I could see where I was lacking control when I slowed down the recording and I am currently working on it. Thanks again! :D
