Hi to all,

For some long time I've making some great projects and never had the oporttunity to record them. Now the time has arrived! :D

I have a laptop but it's a little bit old so wont be perfect for a usb interface.
So I was think getting something that record for its own and if I want transfer tracks to my pc for working with them.

Heres my question, I have two products in mind:

-Tascam DP-008
-Zoom H4N

Which one can I get a better noiseless sound with a xlr mic like a SP-B1

Which one is "better" for me?

Thanks,
JoaoM.

I would go with the Zoom H4n.
Have you read about all of it's functions? It's a remarkable unit!
I have one that gets used regularly, so much as I may get an other for multi stage live work that requires recording at different stages simultaneously.

What about sound quality, do you have problems?
Because I'm only looking for those two units and I don't know which one pick.

I don't even know if those two units are comparable or H4N is better.

The two microphones that are on the unit are ok but you can put any two *other* microphones that you please into the L/R mic preamps on board and get a great sound!
Those microphone input are also line input if you want to go in direct and on the under belly of the unit there is a stereo mini1/4' input that can be used as a live board feed that bypasses the two on board microphones and you can still have your two desirable microphones high up on a stand in a z/y configuration.

you also have an FX library and amp modulation (I believe) for I haven't used those functions.

Any DP-008 user around here that can express his opinion?

Does the first one fit what you need? If so, just get that! Getting good tracks isn't as much about the machine in this case as it is the "hands on" part (mic placement and such).

But if i'm using xlr mics the preamp of the devices are important for getting noiseless sound. :(

Interesting concept..

Loool

I was trying to say that some preamps have a lot of noise and that's it's not so easy to choose between those two. :(

(I don't see the built in effects of H4N as an advantage.)

No not as an vantage at all, but they are there.

Believe me, there are others here who own the H4n and rave about how good they are.
I'm even getting the zoom digital video recorder the sound quality blew me away on it when I heard it the other day.
