Im a hardcore newbie and I bascially want to be able to take the tapeouts from my four UB502 mixers and record on seperate channles into my PC.
What soundcards would someone recommend that's not too pricy?
I've been using my Santa Cruz soundcard just for messing around with, and it works, but only one channel.
Im totally new to this stuff and ultimaltey that's what I want to do.
If it has more that four channels that would even be better.
Also Is it possible to record on all four channles at the same time.
I have Cool Edit and Pro Tools, Which is better>?
We want to be able to all jam at the same time and listen to the output via headphones while we are recording, is this possible?
Or am I thinking wrong.

Someone smack me upside the head and set me straight so I can get the music out of my head and onto CD's

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalp.

what's a UB 504?

Anyway, not to pricey are;

the terratec mt-88

the teratec phase 88

the hoontech dsp2000

all are 8 channels of 24 bit and full duplex, meaning you could monitor the sounds using headphones, although you would need an amp that can power multiple headphones ;)

You probably havce the prtools free version, in which case i would go with cool edit since it is simple, don't know much about protools but everybody keeps dissing the free version.

1010 lt is a good low budget card. it';s the same or maybe even better then the once i mentioned. Why use four seperate mixers anyway? not that it manners. with the lt you will be able to do what you want. Just have a decent computer, and start recording!

low budget

you say low budget, is that the only sense of low regarding this card?
Most of the reviews I read on it were good.
Guess I'll have to try it and as money permits get the good stuff.

We use a p4 2.4 ghz, 1 gig of DDR , two 7200 rpm 80 gig drives.

That should be good enough for a PC don't you think?

what about this card:

is that one to cheap?

Thanks for the responses!!!

That's got 4 inputs. If you want four stereo outs to tie into it you need 8 inputs.

You ofcourse get what you pay for. Might wanna go second hand... anyway, IMHO the 1010lt won't deteriorate the sound as much as i hear that behringer mixers do... so you'll be fine. If you want the high quality shit go to the bank and get a loan. For now; you are all set. Your computer is fine btw.
