Just got the yamaha hs50m for bargain price. I used to use truth B2031A, but the Yamahas seem to have more clarity in sound, so I use the truths now as speaker stands

Oh yeah! If you look at pictures of most major studios you will see a pair of them along side of monitors that cost thousands. Just for that reference point that the yamahas can provide. They are certainly not up to snuff with the expensive monitors but for home recording they are a good pair to have.

Most of the guitar centers that I've been in have them .....plus many others on display to try out.
What you want to do is ask if you can try them out in YOUR space and if they don't work for you then are you able to return them. For at your space ~ that will tell if the proof is in the pudding.

I mixed on a set of behry 2031a's for a few years. They serve the purpose, I never had any complaints. The most complete songs I've produced were mixed 100% on them (link in my sig) - altho I had the b2092 sub to go with em. They work. That being said, I'm on the krk rokit 8's now..

I have an old pair (about 6 yrs) of the Behringer 2031 actives with matching sub. I think they sound a little muddy or dark. I have other monitors that are more open and airy in the mids and highs, which I happen to prefer.
When I try to boost the highs on the 2031a's, they get a little more harsh and ugly sounding...not natural. When I try to trim the low-mid, again they just don't sound right. It's not the right frequency.
For a while there, (before I got better monitors) I got used to them and made some decent mixes on them. I just got used to knowing what to do when I mixed in order to make them translate. You can mix well on any monitors once you get to know them well enough. The NS10 era proved that.
I mean, don't get me wrong. When set flat, they sound ok. They even sound natural. And they are priced right for the beginner. But when you hear them next to better monitors, that's when you notice what they lack. But then, all budget monitors are going to lack something. There is no perfect choice in that price range.

So since i've never done this before......... i'm assuming i buy them... and if i don't like it return them. Is your definition of "trying them out" buying them and bringing them back if i don't like them?
