Hello everyone.

I've got a Behringer UB802 mixer that I connect to the computers soundcard and I'm trying to record accoustic guitar through a Sm57 microphone.

When I listen to through headphones everything sounds ok to me, and while recording (with headphones on) everything seems fine. But when I play what I recorded I have a very disturbing sound in there. Like someone using an electric razor or something in the background. Really annoying and I probably very basic, but I'm still very very new to all this.

Any help appreciated. The microphone is a couple of meters away from the computer and I've tried turning of the computer monitor and stuff like that. The behringer mixer stands on the computer though, could that be the problem?

Thanks.

Electrical hum is a low-frequency rumble at about 60Hz. Finding and eliminating it can be a bear. If your headphones don't have good bass response, you may not hear it while tracking. First of all, try to move the mixer off of the computer. If you have a CRT monitor, turn it off. Try not to have a big mass of wires running parallel to each other. Use XLR-->XLR cable for your mic (balanced) and balanced cables from your mixer to soundcard, if possible.

Yup, I moved the mixer off the computer and put the mic as far away from the computer as I can but I still get it. I think it's less now but it's still way too much to accept. Tried the setup at a friends place and there it sounds great.

Also about the headphones: When I track I hear nothing but when I play it after I hear the noise on the monitors as well as in the headphones.

I am using "tape out" instead of "main out" right now 'cause I only have cables for that (am getting new ones soon) but I did the same at the friends place without problems...

It is very off-pissing!

When you took it to your friends house...did you use all the same cables?

Yeah the same cables, no disturbing sounds.

I'm starting to think maybe it is my soundcard, 'cause it's been behaving weird for a long time. I don't know...

Try balanced cables and then get a new soundcard. If you're using the stock one then an M-Audio Audiophile would improve your life in a big way anyway.
