Noise Reduction from Headphones

Hey y'all!
Here's my issue i need help with: I own a pair of Sony Dynamic Stereo Headphones MDR-7506. How do i reduce the bleeding of the music into my mic when I'm recording vocals (rap vocals)? I use Cubase SX Version3 as my recording software just to let y'all know.

or...get a better set of headphones that offer more isolation. I've never been impressed by the Sony 7506's

Got a pair of Ultrasones. Seem pretty clean. It was a Guitar Center buy. So I was steered by seller. About 3 bills though.

I never cared for 7506s, but I'm definitely in the minority. Lots of people love them.

Is the leakage bad? I mean, have you heard it on the vocal track and it's definitely a bad thing? Sometimes it's barely noticable in the finished product, and sometimes it actually enhances the 'cohesiveness' of the mix.

Maybe you're getting too much leakage because 7506s don't fit you well.

You could find some that just fit you better.

And turn it down.

Version 3 doesn't have a bleed reduction button.

the leakage aint that bad. my issue was, if i turn down the headphone volume down how do still hear the vocals and beat to do punch ins and/or back up vocals. i don't want to lose that energy to match the energy of the lead tracks when doing punch ins and/or background vocals. am i being clear in what i'm sayin?

i also just learned how to use the "noise gate" feature in cubase sx3 to silence out the unwanted noise (headphone leakage)...so inturn i don't hear the headphone leakage in the parts of the vocals where i'm not saying anything. obviously the leakage can't be heard in the parts where something is being said, becuase the leakage matches what is being said.

Just my 2 cents but since you bring up a noise gate feature... I'm do not use cubase but it has been my experiance that you are better off manualy muting or deleting the unused parts of the track rather than use some feature that does it for you. You sometimes will in up with lots of clicking in and out and small pops in the track from using a noise gate. You may not have that bad of a problem on rap vocals but on anything like a guitar track that lets the guitar fade out on a ringing note the things can go crazy on you like you are flicking an on off swith on that track as the volume of the track slowly passes below the thresh hold of the noise gate. I personaly would not be able to use it on my vocals, but like I said you can just delete those sections or in your case I think you can mute them.
