noise on SBlive value

I am a newbie and have been recording with SBlive value and NTRACK. I have alot of noise and Low levels of output. I suspect some of the noise is coming from my older Carvin mixer but not all of it. Is this typical or am I doing something wrong?

I have a slight noise coming through my SB Live! as well. However, when I place my
files on a CD-R it's not on there. Therefore, I assume the noise is coming from my
monitoring system somehow. Does your noise show up when you play the files
on other equipment? Try to localize it so you can better deal with it. Check your
cables and listen to your sound card output with a pair of headphones going
right into the Out #1 jack.
