After extracting the audio from and mpg file I find that at about 2:20 there is a very loud, sharp noise. It sounds like a music stand falling over and bouncing. Needless to say, I want to remove this noise but, I need help.

I have tried a simple cut which was moderately successful and I can live with it but, I'm looking for a better solution. I have also tried without any success pop and clic removal and notch filtration. Looking for suggestions.

The file can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AAXofuZ624

What a bloody shame! I am sure something can be done. Don't know if it comes under John's (Massive M ) remit but if not I bet he knows a man!

I have to say all props to the musicians. They did not miss a hemi-semi whatsit and only the briefest of flicker of the eyes from the girls in the choir showed they had heard the noise.

I am sure this can be rescued. You might also like to post at Sound On Sound | Recording Techniques | Audio Technology | Music Production | Computer Music | Video Media

Oooo! I see Sony offer a trial download. I have used their Sound Forge and the pro version of Vega trials and they do not seem to be limited in any way.

I wonder if the OP could get good enough fast enough to use the software trial?

try it,its hellish good fun .. i tried it early on,the later versions used CUDA (uses the graphics card to speed up processing) available on later cards

That's more than a music stand falling over... I think one of the percussion stands (like a small table) took a dive. That said, it almost sounds as if it was dubbed over the recording -- It's weird -- Doesn't sound like it's in the same space as the rest of the recordings.

And as awesome as a good spectral editor may be on a whole lot of things, that's a big, nasty, awful bit of stuff. And they're all bathed in the verb of the space. Even if you take out the 'attack' of the sound, it's still bouncing around for about 2.5 seconds.

Ooo! Ooo! Do you think my AMD 6300 3.5G 6 core Black ed could handle it?

Dave.

Adobe Audition also has some pretty good restoration tools for removing noises...I just had a five minute play and improved it a fair bit on my first pass...I'm sure a bit of time and adjustment could do better. Audition also has a 28 day free trial and some pretty good video tutorials on using the tools you need.
