My korg prophecy is making noise which sounds like interference coming from my laptop computer. The prophecy doesn't even need to be on and it still makes noise.. the wires just needs to be connected to the prophecy.

It only happens with my prophecy. When I attach the same wires to another keyboard, it doesn't make any noise. It sounds like I can hear the hard drive of my computer.. when I open a program, I can hear it working.. or when I move the mouse, I can hear it too. Then when I shut down completely, it's silent.

At first, I thought it was dirty connections, so I resoldered the outputs (since I know prophecys have been known to have weak output jacks), but it still didn't work.

I have no idea why it's doing this and hopefully there is someone familiar with this? Thank you so much!

have you tried only using the battery with your laptop and not the power supply? if the noise goes away when this happens, try using a groundlift for your laptop power supply (any three to two prong adapter will work). i'm pretty sure this is safe, unless someone on the bbs says otherwise. i have to do it all the time with my laptop and my firewire card for live performances. i might have other ideas if this doesn't work.

jbratch, thanks for the reply.

I tried using just the battery, and the noise goes away! I'm gonna find a ground lift right now... at least for a temporary solution. Anybody know if it's safe? Thanks again for the help!
