noise, etc.

I record my telecaster to my computer as follows: I'm using the pre-amp out of my Fender HotRode Deluxe, running into the line-in of my soundblaster card. Now, i'm sure this setup sounds downright insulting to any audiophiles out there. But I like the ease and simplicity of it, and i'm not exactly an audiophile (and when I want to open-mic record the amp, I do have that option).

But regarding this method, here is my question: how can I cut down (if at all possible) on the level of line noise I'm getting? Just the "hum" of the amp itself, without the guitar plugged in, gets picked up pretty loud in my .wav recorder (I use CoolEdit). Then with the guitar in, it adds some buzz, and between the two the recorded noise level is loud enough that I can't possibly noise-reduce the .wav in CoolEdit without horribly altering the guitar tone. The recorded tone is actually quite good, I think -- but there's all that damn noise! Too much to work with, truly.

Is there any way to troubleshoot around this? Any ideas?
Thanks!

If you have a crt screen, that might be where the buzz is coming from. (the pickups pick up the screen scanning) Make sure you have the amp plugged into the same outlet as the computer or you will get a ground loop (60hz hum)
