o.k.
for starters, i am a complete and total newbie. so bear in mind that i may be overlooking the simplest and most obvious cause to this problem.

here's what i'm using:
soundcraft fx16 board
delta 1010 @ +4 & 16/44.1hz
asus a7v333/amd xp2100+/512mb ddr sd
cakewalk pro audio 8/win 2000
alesis ra150/monitor one mk2
balanced lines/decent mics

i am getting some clipping on my recordings- drums, bass and guitar. my signal is not peaking on the board nor on the rec meter in pro audio, yet when i play it back it sounds weak and to hot at the same time. this happens whether i'm going direct into the board or through a direct box.

i'm running playback out of the delta's out ch 1 & 2 into the board & out to the amp. i've also tried direct from the delta to the amp. all cables are new.

what do you guys think?

thanks,
richard

Are you running the card's outs into the monitor section of the mixer ?

Are you clipping at the main mix buss in Cakewalk?

delta out 1 & 2 running into mixer aux 1 return L & R, mixer monitor out running into monitor amp. monitors sound great during recording but recorded play back sounds awful.

"Are you clipping at the main mix buss in Cakewalk?"

no clipping during playback on main buss meter, just a staticy sound.

i was up 'til 4am troubleshooting and trying different options-no luck.

thanks for you reply's. do the answers to your questions help?
any more help will be greatly appreciated. i'm dying to record and losing my mind trying to figure this out.

...are you recording the whole band live at once ? one by one ?

New here so this might not be the answer to the problem. But I have been looking for an audio interface myself and have been researching what is available. I don't think that a Delta 1010 is compatible with an amd processor or at least all I have ever seen is them used with pentium systems. Any way not exaclty sure, but I am new and trying to get some thoughts out. Thanks.

Do some tests to isolate the sound card and software to see where the problem is. Will it play back any audio in cakewalk and sound okay or is it just your stuff that sounds funny?

Since it sounds okay monitoring off the mixer while recording then the mixer is probably not the problem. Try recording from a CD player or something directly into the delta and see if the problem is still there.

Try importing a WAV that you got from somebody else or ripped off of CD and see if that plays ok in Cakewalk.

If you still have the problem try using another recording program with the Delta.

found the problems:

latency was at 512, bumped it up to 1024

also, i have an sb audigy for soundfont playing. apparently i can't have that on while i'm recording- or at least i haven't figured out how to.

thanks for your help

richard
