I am needing some help. New to digital recording.

I am using Cubase LE 4.1.3 and GarageBand with the Presonus FireStudio 26x26.

After I have recorded audio into either program I am not able to hear it playback through headphones or studio monitors. I can hear the audio through both while recording but nothing on playback.

I am experiencing the problem with both Cubase and GarageBand.

I have tried different boot up sequences with the MacBook and the FS. First the Mac and then the FS or the FS and then the MacBook. No difference. It still syncs up either way but no output sound.

All of my input and output busses are correctly setup in Cubase and GarageBand according to both the Presonus website here and the forums I have read.

I have read where many of you have sound output but then lose it. So I thought I would try turning the FS off once I had Cubase and GarageBand up and running.

If I try to turn the FS off and then back on while leaving Cubase up it is unable to connect. It says that the “ ASIO cannot detect hardware properties”.

I checked to see if the sound and input/output sound drivers were still set to the Presonus FireStudio and they are.

System Preferences>HardwareSound>Input/Output>PreSonus FireStudio
Finder>MacintoshHD>Applications>Utlities>AudioMIDISetup>PreSonus FireStudio

With clock source being internal

Since the MacBook only has a Firewire 800 port I have tried running it direct to the Firewire 400 port on the FS. I have also tried running the Firewire signal through an external hard drive that has both Firewire 400 and 800 connections as a bypass to see if that would work. Still no output sound. I have read in several forums that the FS only likes the Firewire 400 connection.

So what is going wrong here? Why can I not get any output sound.

Is this a compatibility issue?

Do I need a driver update for the FireStudio? For the MacBook?

A Firmware update?

Do I need an adapter of some sort?

Do I need to increase buffer size?

This is getting quite frustrating to say the least.

Thanks for your help!

When your recording you are listening to the signal coming into the FS.

Have you set up the outputs in Cubase? You should be able to select any of the 8 outs on the FS, 1 as right 1 as left. Then in the presonus output window you have to pick one set of outs to be the phones.

When I am recording I am hearing the signal come through the FS.

I have the outputs setup as presonus, cubase and a host of forums say to do. Still there is no sound.

I'm starting to think that it may be a driver issue.
