I just installed sonar 4 producers edition and I tried to use it, but I'm getting no sound. I have a previous program from cakewalk, homestudio 2004, and that one works fine. I have the latest updates on my drivers and all, but still I can't get no sound. What are your suggestions on getting this fix?

Do you have your Track and Bus outputs assigned correctly? Sounds like that might be the problem. The universal routing available in S4 can be a bit tricky - don't know if that was available in HS.

The other possibility that comes to mind is that you have two sound cards in your system, but only one of them has WDM drivers available. You can not mix driver modes in Sonar. Both cards have to use the same mode.

Sometimes I find that if I have another program open first that uses sound (i.e., Windows Media Player), the sound resources get allocated to that program, and sonar gets blocked. Close all your programs, make sure you open sonar first. Hopefully, that's an easy fix that works for you.

Also, it could be your midi settings. I had that problem, too, when I first started, but for the life of me I can't remember the fix. It was an easy fix, once you knew what it was. I'll look around and see if I can remind myself what it was.

I finally figured it out. It was in the audio options and I hade to click on the MME. I think its something about the windows driver that wasn't clicked on. Thanks for the help.

The likely reason that this worked is that, as I indicated above, you have two sound cards in your system, but only one has WDM drivers available to it. By switching to MME you probably allowed both cards to be enabled.

Nothing wrong with this per se; however, you will have to work with much higher latency settings using the MME drivers. This may or may not create problems depending on how you record.
