Emeric,

I'm really impressed. And this is what you call "rough?" I loved the main phrase, very powerful with a great unexpected twist that I just love. All I can say from a critical perspective is -- I think the vocals need to ride up out of the guitar bed just a little more, and that superfast lick that picks up into the guitar solo is just a little too generic-80's-shredzoid for my taste. Something more slippery, simpler and slurred would work better, I think.

Great work. Not to compare, it doesn't really sound like them much at all but my mind popped up with Adrian Belew and the Beatles while I listened.

Hey, Emeric. Do everyone a favor. Try out Ed's suggestion, and post it as well, then we can compare. I really like the guitar sound on this preliminary take. I thought maybe the reason you were playing the guitars low down and with bass was in order to do without a bass guitar on this one. And why not? Who says you have to have electric bass on every take? Joseph Haydn?

Emeric,

You've got enough feedback so I'll keep it short :) I too feel that the guitar sound is way too bass heavy and somewhat undesireable. Well it's only bass heavy when you palm mute...otherwise it's heavy in the "cheap" frequencies. In fact it instantly reminds me of the POD. The hardest thing to do with the POD is to get a sound that DOESN'T sound like it's coming from a POD :) (not that I don't love my POD or anything)

Was there a bass guitar? Listen to this mix with crappy headphones once. I bet the whole mix could be fixed by simply retracking the rhythm guitars.

I dig the tune man! You always do great work; looking forward to the final product!

Slackmaster:

I was going for that instantly recognizable POD sound.. :) no, not really. I just plugged in and dialed up a preset. They are all bassy aren't they? Your right, getting a POD to not sound like one is the trick. Yes, there is a bass guitar, but the line is so simple and muted that it may as well not be there. I'll fix that. Retracking is the plan for sure. Thanks for checking it out!

lol, yes indeed. I suppose it is a little generic 80'ish sounding. I think I'll leave it alone though, but maybe not. Listened to lots of Beatles, not much Belew though.

Kelly Holdridge:

Glad you like the song. Not sure what the "My Bloody Valentines" sound is though! Thanks for the listen.

Dobro:

Yes, I'm gonna retrack with mic's. I'll post a more completed version next time round.

Emeric,

I'm most interested in how you got a 4min. Mp3 to pop up my media player and load so fast. I Wanna Learn!

My only criticism and take this coming from a musician is that the drums sound like a very present live room mix whereas the guitars and vocals sound very spacy and effected and although loud they seem distant. To me the drums sould be back with the overall spacy sound of Sunday.

I don't know, encoded at 96K. Maybe your ISP is having a good day. The drums do sound too roomy in relation to the other instruments, your right. It will be rerecorded though, so hopefully I can improve that. Thanks for the listen.
