I dont have monitors what are the next best thing.What steps can I take to do a better job till i can get the money?

Depending on how long it will take to get the money.
You really are pushing shit up hill with sub standard speakers.
Id advise doing research into mixing and mastering whilst you save for a good speaker set up.
What are you using now
Headphones?
This in not a good idea at all.
High chance of permanent hearing loss with head phones. Not to mention that your mixes wont translate.
But im sure Southside will no doubt contradict me, with Fletchers Jizz on his chin.

I been in your position. Solution, get the money ASAP and get a good speaker. Meantime, you got to live with headphone or multimedia spkr.

Headphones are probably the worst for mixing...atleast get yourself a 2.0 speaker system. or maybe even a 2.1 system with sub. Headphones are very dishonest when it comes to reproducing sound because of their frequency response.

This is what i did b4 i got mine
Get 3-Way speakers so you can hear your Hi's Mid's and Low's clearly and never use 2-Way (they never tell the truth) Nice beats by the way
