Here's a new one I just finished up. It's semi-autobiographical, but mostly tongue-in-cheek. ;)

No Class

Any comments/critiques are welcome and appreciated. :)

Here's the lyrics:

I was just a boy, a kid, I played with toys
I still ended up this way, and I don’t care about what you say
You don’t wanna know me, you just wanna show me
All the things I do wrong, I’m a ticking time-bomb!
I’m a litter-bug, and I don’t want a hug
From people that are fake, I just need a break
I don’t wanna play nice, I don’t need your advice
And though I may seem strange, I’m never gonna change

You know my parents disowned me
I don’t let no one control me
I’m gonna kick some fucking ass
Because I got no class

I’m gonna steal from your mom – no class
And I’ll run over your dog – no class
Like a teacher in the summertime – no class
I live a life of crime

What’d you ever see in me? I’m not what you want me to be
I never pay my bills on time, I look away when there’s a crime
I dirty up the air, I eat dinner in my underwear
I got a car, it guzzles gas, I don’t care, it’s really fast!
I don’t feed the poor, and I don’t open doors
For women that I meet while I’m lurking on the streets
I’m just a hooligan, and I don’t need no friends
Not going anywhere, and I don’t fucking care

And you don’t know what to do
Nothing I ever say is true
I’m gonna kick your fucking ass
Because I got no class

I’m gonna steal from your mom – no class
And I’ll run over your dog – no class
Like a teacher in the summertime – no class
I live a life of crime

You know I deal in extortion
And I laugh at abortions
I’m gonna tap some teenage ass
Because I got no……..

Because I got no class
I’m gonna steal from your mom – no class
And I’ll run over your dog – no class
Like a teacher in the summertime – no class
I live a life of crime

Because I got no class
And I aint got no class
You know I got no class
No!

As with everything I hear you post, it sounds pretty damn awesome to me. Very powerful sounding mix. Great tune. Great lyrics. Personally can't fault it. Nice job :)

I don't like punk. Well, I didn't think I did--but I love this. But this feels just like good ol' pissed off rock 'n roll to me. (Is that what punk is, and I've been missing it all this time?)

This is awesome. Another tune in the clinic that doesn't sound home recorded at all. (I mean that as a compliment) I think the mix is perfect: big and in your face but really well balanced.

And the song itself is a blast. Great arrangement and great smart-ass attitude. And it might be an old cliche that I just don't know, but my new favorite line is: Like a teacher in summer time--no class. I'm gonna try that on my wife tonight.

Nice, Greg L!
Good song, good singin´and playin´, and recordin´and mixing´:)
Great mix.
Vox could be a bit lower in the mix.But is my taste.
Another detail...a small boost around 180hz can
improve the "meat" of bass guitar (lack of better work).

Just curious about the "things":D (mic, pre, even converter).Seems the room has a good treatment too(?).

Nice work Greg I like it. Mix is great as far as I can tell. That's a fun song I really enjoyed it.

Thanks dude. Yeah, I guess this isn't "punk" by the general definition, but it's not something I think you'd hear on mainstream radio and I draw pretty much all of my influences from NYC punk of the mid 70's. So, I guess I consider my stuff punk by default. Punk is rock and roll. It's just not your mommas rock and roll. :D

The "teacher in the summertime" line goes way back to my days of watching Fat Albert cartoons. They used to say that a lot on that show. "You're like a teacher in the summertime - no class!" :p

Thanks man. This mix is hot off the press and I haven't referenced it on anything else yet, so you may be right about those adjustments.

Thanks Yonce. :D

Good song, Greg, no real nits with it. I think the vocals are right where they should be. In your face. Nice driving energy and good guitar work. Yeah, the bass was a little sparse, but I didn't even notice until someone mentioned it and I went back to listen.

Enjoyed it!:)

Can't add much to this thread, Greg. Like Whitey said, another Greg home recording that doesn't sound like a home recording. Great stuff.

Another cracker from the star of homerecording.com!! Love it! Great vibe! Great sound!!

This is like the best song The Offspring ever did. It has that vibe from some of their better tunes. I agree the sound and mix are exceptional for home recording or otherwise. I give it 5 ass kicks!

Well...you've done it again Greg, hit me right between the eyes with this one:D
How the hell do you manage that drum sound? And everything sounds so balanced and just right. And the song? Most punks don't have your class;)
It's beautifully arranged and I don't think I've ever heard your voice this good on your other stuff.

I feel humbled and would like to bow my head......(excuse my rant, but this is at least a step more than Homerecording)
Lots of class, so keep them coming!:D:D:D:D:cool::cool:
Cheers

Hey thanks a lot. I still don't know about the bass. It sounds about right on my end. But, I still haven't listened anywhere else, so it's entirely possible that it's too low.

Thanks a lot Rami! :)

I'm no star. Please, there's lots of really good stuff in here. I'm just a guy with too much free time. :D

Thanks a lot though. :)

Great job man!!!! Good work!!!:D
Thanks Jay! :D

Cool, thanks. I'm not a big Offspring guy, but there's a lot worse things to be compared to. :p

Wow, thanks man. I've been pretty happy with my drums lately, so thanks for noticing. It's nothing fancy. Semi-decent mics and a Firepod going into Reaper. I think the main thing is that I have the drums themselves dialed in pretty well with the head combos I'm using now. They're sounding great on their own which makes recording them pretty easy. :o

Really cool kick ass song-and definitely high energy punk. Like others already said, the bass could use more low end, but it has a great Rickenbacker 4001 sound as it is..

Good mix. Sounds 80's ish to me. Skilful playing and production. Also my favourite kind of autobiographical....semi ;)

another flawless winner from the venerable greg_L.

backing vox are exceptionally well performed and mixed, btw.

Okay that's another vote for more bass. I'll remix tomorrow. Thanks for listening.
