I don't know what the Tomb Raider song sounds like, but I know there are two distinct types of NIN distortion that are pretty easy to get. One is to run a distortion pedal before your POD (like a Rat), and get the double-distortion sound. This is thick and wild, and it will feed back in incredibly squealy ways. The other way is jsut to record a normal distorted sound, maybe a sort of well-overdriven marshall type sound, into your computer, then run it through some distortion plugins. the plugin that comes with Acid 3 is great for this, but a lot of other plugins will get you the type of sound you're craving--digital distortion. it ain't pretty, but it works for trent...
