Ok i guess ultimatly my question is how do the pre-amps in an expensive mixer(expensive to me) like the soundcraft M12 compare to a seperate pre like the DMP3? If theres little differance in quality, it would be of better value to me to sell my behringer mixer and get a soundcraft...or a differant mixer if anyone has any better ideas? A friend has a behriger DDX and ses its very very nice.

It really depends on your present and future needs. The beauty of individuals pres are in the fact that you have a large palette of colors to choose from. You could buy the channels you needed and nothing more. However, a good board...good being subjective to the user's taste...would run from about 8,000 grand and up. At that level you could pick up a used neotek board. But you'd also have eq, sends, aux...the whole works.

You could probably get a Neotek for far less than $8000. Used analog consoles are a great bargain right now.

Theres a 12/4/2 Neotek Series I with an internal patchbay on eBay right now starting at $750. Also, a Soundtracs Topaz 24/8 Buy It Now $1050, but you have to pick it up in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Since I don't have the funds to pick up either of these, I'd like to see one of the good folks here at the BBS get them if they're interested. I'm only bringing this up here since Neoteks were mentioned.

The series I neotek is a peice of shit and not even worth using. You're much better off buying a sytek pre for about the same price if you're into that whole neotek thing. The pre's in my humble opinion on the sytek are better than the Elan pres.

Please expound on the Neotek Series I.

Well, to stay under $8000......
MCI 600 series (plenty available for well under $8000)
Trident series 16, 24, 65 and 75
Soundcraft 6000 and TS12 (possibly even TS24)
Soundtracs Quartz, IL, Solitaire and possibly a Jade

You should be able to find all of these consoles used for under $8000. Some of them for WELL under that mark. Most of these consoles would be a great centerpiece for a smaller studio and all of them have preamps that will hold up very well against most of the $500 and under preamps on the market. This is not to mention tht you also get EQ, routing, submixing, faders, and a cool looking beautiful piece of gear.
