I just found a nice mic combo for electric guitar, both clean and distorted: the ATM25 (where you would normally put the 57 - about 2" from the speaker) and the BLUE dragonfly about 3 ft back. Beautiful combo, IMO - the ATM25 is clean but not harsh in the upper mids, and the dragonfly gives it some "air".

If you have these mics, try it. At least try the ATM25 in place of the 57 or 421, and then put your favorite LDC a few feet back...

Not many people know this, but the Dragonfly kicks some major ass on a (mostly cleanish) guitar amp.

Yeah, the Dragonfly was definitely better for cleaner sounds. The ATM25 worked very well for both, though.

The ATM25 and Dragonfly (through API preamps) on a Gibson running through a Bassman was absolutely killer!

The ATM-25 is more versatile than people give it credit for.

It actually makes a really good snare mic, too.

The most crazy way of recording electronic guitar...

use 3 sources: 2 direct in, 2 mic in
2 direct in with 2 different POD setting
a pair stereo mic
then you will have a 4 tracks recording ...later on...it's the deal of how you mix and balance : D.....but trust me....it sounds FULL and awsome!

I tracked a whole record of cleans with a single dragonfly. I later got a Royer and the dragonfly got sidelined. However, I just recently put the dragonfly back and with a 421 and realized why I had gone to it for clean guitar so much.

You can check out some tracks at www.raraeavis.com
