Here's what I have so far:
Delta 1010LT
Dmp3 Preamp
Re20
V67G
3 Shure ES57 (clones)

I am mainly going to be recording male vocals rap, spoken word poetry, female and male r&b. I am thinking the RE20 will get the job done for the male vocals, but for females I feel I need something else, a warmer mic, I suppose. I was eyeing a Shure SM7 possibly for the job, but was looking to add a B1 to the collection as well as maybe an authentic SM57 or SM58, even though I've ab'ed and they sound almost identical with the ES57's. Should I invest in a better preamp or will this be fine for now. I am working on constructing a vocal booth, so I know that will add to my recording qualit, right now I record in a room with terrible acousitcs.

Oh yea, I'd like to spend less than $300. It'd be great to purchase 2 mics instead of 1, but if the 1 of higher quality will do the job then that works as well. I'd probably go up to the $400 range, but want to stay as low as possible (you know how that is)

I think with the RE20 in the bag I would probably lean towards getting one channel of a really decent preamp or channel strip, something I could bank on and forget about. After that I guess any mic with some more high-end sensitivity, a little brighter like an SP C1, SP T3, AT4050 or Rode NT2.

I use an AKG precision 200 for most of my vocals. I also like the AT 2020, it has a real nice response on the top end.

Very reasonable progression

I was thinking a better Preamp may be a better option for now. What would be a decent one under $500 that would give better quality than what I have now.

Well, I just went with a M-audio Projectmix, so the preamp is out of the question for now. I am going to look for a decent mic that's warmer and suited more for female vocals. I'm going to consider the list above, but also still open to suggestions.
Thanks!

Please offer some more suggestions. I need to buy something soon.
Was going with the SM7, but that deal fell through. So, I have been considering the Sennheiser 441, NTK, ADK, 4040, 4050.
Primary focus is jazz, r&b, female vocals, sax, male vocals as well. It'd be great to have something I could use for my sax in a live environment.

Then I would get the 441. Someday you'll want a real nice LDC though, I would save up a while for it and getting something real nice, say in the $500-$800 range.

Nought the SM7... Again :o
However, the T3 has me quite interested as well. It might be a nice add to my collection. This recording business is starting to cost me too much money.... but I am loving it.

Based on your current mic locker, I'd suggest a mid-range condenser or a decent ribbon mic. For female vocals, the Beyer M500 ($2-400) really kills as a ribbon mic - has a nice presence peak in highs and sounds really smooth. It also doubles as a nice electric guitar cab mic.

From my experience, I can vouch for the Shure KSM27 as sounding great on female vox. It's got a much more hi-fi thing going on when compared to the Beyer. Ideally, you should have both of these mics!
