RE the electric kit.

You could use a midi cable to send data rather than sound, and have a software package use that to create your drum sounds.
Something like addictive drums.

Depending on the quality of your kit, that might be worth investigating.

Won't have the kit for another couple months anyway but that's definitely a sound idea, will try both when I get it and see what I like.

I think you will find that the mic stand is not heavy enough for the condenser mic. I have a 2.7kg stand and I need to add weights to hold it down if I want to use my condenser mic extended on the boom. Either look for something heavier or buy a sandbag.

I've got a couple ankle weights (2kg each) they're essentially sand bags

Think I may have to save another £100 or so to get the set up I want.

a wise decision even if it makes you wait a little bit.
You want to get started with this hobby/passion with an at least minimally acceptable rig so you will enjoy it and want to do more of it.
Then you can get started saving the other 10,000 quid you'll need for the rest of the gear you're gonna lust for.

I don't have either the stand you started with or the one now linked to, so I am just voicing my concern. You need to check that the stand will be up to the job. Ankle weights sounds like a good way to get by with a cheap stand.

Ah okay thanks. I figure the extra 0.6kg may help a bit as well as the ankle weights so will pay the extra £5 for it.

Ankle weights, pro sand bag, regular lifting weights in a leather bag draped on the feet of the microphone stand ..... they all work!

I can't thank you guys enough.

I'm a member of a computer forum where we have newbs come and ask about computer stuff and I refer them to stickies and they then realise that what everyone just took the time to type especially for me, is in these stickies. Apologies for being one of those people who didn't check the stickies.

This should be a beast of a budget set up.

Noooooooooo! My US-800 order got cancelled They lied when their website said they had stock...

I can't find anyone else in the UK stocking it at a decent price either.

Edit: Might just buy the US-600 instead, having to pay an extra £15 for a worse model is killing me :/

You guys in the US have it so good! It looks like I'll be having to pay the equivalent of $246 for the US-600! When you guys have had the US-800 for $99!

Many US stores ship to the UK but by the time you have paid 20% VAT (tax) for importing it into the EU, plus the customs charge and the additional Royal Mail (post) charge, it usually works out $=£, or about 50% higher prices in the UK in real terms.

Mattbut2, the US-800 was at the end of its product life (for tascam) but there is always the secondhand market. For example, through ebay.

Couldn't find the 800 used on eBay, all were American sellers. I just paid £138 ($213) for the US-600, should be here tomorrow. The rest of the gear including the microphone is coming today, going to kill me not being able to use any until tomorrow!

The mic feels very well made, as does the stand (for £15 at least)

Okay the US-600 is here! Everything is perfect apart from some buzz with the Phantom power on.

Tried 3 different sockets in the house, all produce the same buzz, with or without USB.

It gets worse as I crank the gain.

Here's a sample. As you can hear, the sound itself is fine, it's just the buzz.

Any ideas? Don't have another XLR I can try.

On a side note these DT770's sound absolutely incredible through this. Having lots of fun listening to Led Zeppelin's "In My Time of Dying" at the moment!
