My personal favorite is the old Tascam 42 and 44 in my home-system. 4 track and a 2 track machine with a M-30 mixer hooked for

Wow! Welfom to the board Rolf(oops, had chocklate cake in me mouth when I typed:D ) Cool, a 42 is one of your favorites huh? Man, I'm in good company. I just opened my 42b, that I bought a year ago. Haven't even used it, but I'm getting ready to do a stereo track session for a friend. Geeeze, this forum gets better by the day. BTW, you met GFM(Ghost). I'm the GOF(grumpy old fart)around these parts. Every forum has to have one ya know. I mean, who else is gonna take the job:p Besides, I've got the credentials. HA! At least my wife says so. AND I have the bla bla bla desease too. Sooooo, if I bla too much, thats why. Hell, bla bla'in here is the only place I got. My wife don't want to talk to a GOF, especially one that only bla's away about recording. I mean shes SICK of it. Anyway, good to meet ya. Oh, btw, I think I did visit yer site bout a year ago. Cool. Learned a lot. And if I remember right, there was a page about a 2300. Which I also have for 7 1/2" stuff. Love that ole deck. What a workhorse. Got it for a whopping $40. Steal. Ok, enough bla bla. Welcome and later. Ok, wheres that chocklate cake?

fitZ:)
ps, your gonna be ONE busy guy round these parts!

Must be yummy cake you got there !!!!

Rolf - Welcome to the BBS. I'm strictly digital (hence my BBS name) but have dreams of entering the analog realm. I've built a studio and have the room for this type equipment, but, like I said I've built a studio (no cash :D ). I've been to your website many times over the last year can't thank you enough for your in-depth explanations and instructions. Hopefully I'll be pinging you in the near future as a member of my sons band has offered to loan me his 8 track.

Hello DD. Say, do you mind if I ask why you want to "revert" back to analog? I mean, its old technology, highly contagious to ridicule, time and space consuming, and THEN theres the problem of TAPE. And of course, maintenence. And parts. And techs. And
machine noise, not to mention money. Oh, you probably heard promisises of delight in the aquisition of equipment, and the smell of a fresh reel of tape, and dedicated knobs, better sound, and all that stuff. Heres another. Absolute FUN!!! hehehehehehe!

Nothin better I like to see, than both my synched 16 tracks and the mixdown decks reels turnin. All 6 of them. Its mesmerizing. Not to mention it looks cool. And other people who come in here are fascinated. Even if they have computers and such, that doesn't impress them. But thats not what I like about them. When I record on a reel to reel, I KNOW its recording. With digital, I don't know if its doing shit untill the end.
And then its too late. Anyway, glad to hear your coming back. Oh, better hurry, ALL the good stuff is getting grabbed up off ebay by Reel. Hahahaha!

Hi Tex

I see you have a Sony TC200. So do I. Except.... Mine doesn't work :( The main problem appears to be with the transport.

Also, I just took a look at the heads and it appears to be a 1/2 track machine. Is that right? If it is (and I could get it working) that would be extremely cool

Rick - I guess since I started out on a Tascam 424 you could say "revert." :D I've been toying with the idea of a nice multitrack Reel to Reel for the past year. Almost had my hands on several thru eBay. One was a deadbeat seller who withdrew from eBay after my high bid win of $52. Of course this was after he sent me an email telling where to send the money. SOB. Almost lost that money.

Don't get me wrong, I love working in digital. Especially the editing part. Still there's just something mesmerizing (?) about those reels spinning and analog needles jumping. My studio is a project studio. Explanation - nobody records in there unless I want them to. I don't rely on it for a living so I can be really picky about who goes in there. I love to experiment so at times I offer free recording to an interesting group with an understanding of their "test subject" status. Analog tape fits right into some of the things I want to experiment with.
