Newbie Question about video

allright this is gonna sound really basic to you all. But I am just starting to finally use my Cubase SX3 for audio, and now I'm wondering, can it also be used for video? If so, how? Can you edit video? And what type of video recorder should work with it?
I was looking at a digital camcorder that connects to the computer through a firewire, the store manager never heard of cubase, so I figured I'd ask you guys if a camera like that would work?

If the guy never heard about cubase you should find another store considering he's the manager. Sounds like prosumer goods you're looking at. I think nuendo is the software you want to look at and make sure the camera you buy can do what you want it to do.
 
Another great alternative for video is Sony's Vegas Movie Studio with DVD architect. It's $99 at Best Buy, etc.

I've been using it to transfer all my VHS tapes to DVD and it works GREAT.

It will also allow you to strip the audio off a video and process it or import your music projects onto video.
 
is that something that I could say, make my own shitty documentary with?
 
You need a Non-Linear Editing program

NLE's edit video. Cubase lets you do audio editing in conjunction with a video source, but you can't do anything to the video itself.

If you want to edit video, check out Adobe Premiere Pro, Vegas, or get a Mac and check out finalcut pro.

Cubase won't edit video. To do that with Steinberg you need Nuendo. Nuendo is very expensive though:(

p.s., Cubase SX3 costs roughly 600 bucks now, but you can get the start up versions or other limited versions for much cheaper.
