Just a sketch, but you can find it here. I feel a little like a talking dog - you don't pay so much attention to what it says; just marvel that it can talk at all...

Tune is "Pointy Boots"

I'll try to get some things up at Nowhere Radio as soon as I can figure it out.

Cool so far. The over all level is kinda low. Where you going with this? Vocals? Full band kind of a thing?

B. Sabbath - The site is pretty slow right now and that might be a problem; I've been getting time outs on it. I also just joined, so, for instance, you won't yet find the tune on my page and so forth. Hope it smoothes out.

Track Rat - Thanks for the kind words. I'm still getting over my chagrin at hearing what I really sound like...

I'd like to put together a half dozen sketches to see if there would be some interest to run with something at the August gathering in CT - something like "hey, that's cool; what about doing this..." In the meantime, I get to learn a little. Just started with this. There are a few others up my sleeve, but they're even rougher right now...

It's a shocker ain't it?:D To this day when I hear my own voice on tape, I cringe (along with anyone else in earshot and a few unlucky dogs).

uh.. clicking the "Hi"-icon made it start downloading a 20MB waveform.. but what the hey.. it downloads in 60Kb/s so... I'll just wait for it...

30%..... (off to bathroom)... ah.. done

very low sounding, and panned to the left... It's a nice sound on the accoustic.. feels a bit incomplete... Not much to say about this piece.. keep working on it. :)

19MB! Holy Salmon Platter!

Maybe you could, sort of, ENCODE the .wav file first?

How long did it take to upload that?

But this is cool enough on cable! Real .wav files! Yippee!

Swingin'.

Levels are real low and the reverb gets a little thick here and there.
But that's a perfect ditty for the acoustic ECHRC-2 ensemble.

What's an mp.3?

Seriously, when I uploaded that, I thought it had been encoded. I'll go through it again to make it a little more reasonable.

[Edit]

Just tried and the program terminated the conversion, so I have to figure out what I stepped in...

Goddam, I've been shredding all these years....

Treebee:

Nice feel to this one.

Sounds like a throwback to the days of "cool" bluegrass to me.
Very good tempo/pace.

Looking forward to jamming with you again in August!

Beaumont Rag

The playing is great. The thing I noticed was a fair bit of backgroun hum and the start and end. You might want to hunt around your equalizer to find that and turn down that band. It might make it sound cleaner.

Yep. Not real quiet, is it? I'm running a couple of signals from my guitar direct into ch. 2 & 3 on a Mackie CFX (not the quietest mixer, I know) and then using tape out, unbalanced, to a SBLive card. But it's OK; there's no duct tape used anywhere in the signal path. Yet.
:D

I'm beginning some serious domestic lobbying action for a real soundcard... We'll see. Then mics, then...(sigh).

Thanks, all. I'm working on a couple more...

The recording: I never thought I'd say this, but it's too quiet. And like drstawl, I'd like to hear the sound closer up, which I guess means a tad less reverb.

The performance: something's not working 100% on the timing. I bet you're not working with a click track, right?

You're referring to Pointy Boots? Now, if all the problems with that take were confined to reverb and signal level, I'd be happy! It's about as rough as you can get, but it's just an idea for a hook or two. You're right; no click track. I've since figured that feature out, but it is harder to use than I thought it would be. Comes from playing alone, I think.

I'm working on a full length Beaumont Rag for the East Coast jamfest, where the two parts will be panned excessively to make them useful as practice tracks. I've run into a puzzle with an autofade on one track that I haven't figured out how to reverse ("What's this button do?"). Beautiful slow fade to nothing from the middle of the song... Oh well. Time to learn how to punch in..

Yeah, right, sorry - Pointy Boots. Nice title. I forgot to mention - I like the feel of that tune a lot.

As for click tracks: I don't know if you're into beat programs at all, but if you are, Fruity Loops for $100 is a steal, and it's what we expatriate Canadians refer to as A Very Good Program. One of its beauties is that it's so dead simple to set up a click track at any tempo you like really quickly. Plus it does all those beats. Plus it's got a piano roll. I think it puts the cat out and washes the dishes as well...
