Good day folks. I'm a fifty year old who only picked up a guitar a few years ago and started writing and playing my own songs a little while after. I bought my son a Mac laptop for college and discovered it had GarageBand on it. I got a LightSnake and started recording the guitar tracks digitally and using the built in mic on the laptop for the vocal tracks. I've burned a couple CD's and am pretty happy with the results, but the problem is my son is only home for a few breaks a year so I want to get my own digital set up. I'm thinking of getting the Mac Mini because it is relatively affordable, small and simple. Does anyone have any suggestions for a less costly alternative for simple digital system that can burn CD's? I'm all ears, thanks.

No alternative, you should get the mac mini!

That answer is of no help or use to the OP.

There are a ton of options available. You can go with a PC and interface with free or inexpensive software. You can also look at a digital recorder. I would suggest doing some googling and have a read through the tweak guide. It may answer a lot of your questions.http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm

Of course keep asking on this and other forums. There are members with years of experience and advice.

even at the apple store there are more alternatives than a mac mini. If you are prepared to go out into the bright light of day and fresh air, you'll find there are even alternatives to the apple store. (SHOCK!!!!)
+1 for reading Tweakz Guide
