Hello, all,

I'm not new to computers but definitely new
to recording (with a PC or otherwise). I need
to record a music show that will ultimately
end up in RealAudio format. I'm fairly clear
on how I'm going to get the music there but
I'm feeling a bit clueless about how to
record my voice (announcing the tracks, etc).

I am just starting, so I'm totally open to
purchasing a new/better sound card (I'm
kind of leaning towards the Montego II HOME STUDIO card/software -- any feedback about
this?) but I have no idea what kind of mic
and cable to get.

Suggestions?

Thanks much in advance!

Cheers,
Darci

So you just want to record your voice on computer? As a real audio file, right?
Explain what you plan to do and what you want to do. The music(if on CD) can easily be recorded from playing it from your CDROM drive.
Recording your voice onto computer is simple.
Plugin you desktop mic(which came with your soundcard) and record what you want onto a wav, then you need a WAV>Real audio converter which i believe there is a short tutorial on the mainpage of this site.
If you don't have a soundcard, I suggest a SoundBlaster Live! Value. Its cheap and its one of the best quality soundcards for all purpose use(ie. music, games, etc.)
If you plan on using your PC as a home recording studio then...I don't know about that. But my home recording studio(if I could even call it that) im using a SBLIVE card and Im getting great results.
Please post what your plans are.

Thanks, William, for your response.

I'm working on recording a music show that
will be hosted on the Web and available via
RealAudio on demand.

I know how to re-record music from CD (and
other sources for that matter) and write it
out to my hard drive.

I am looking to record my voice at a better
sound quality than the standard buy-it-off-the-shelf for five bucks pc mic.

Once the voice track is recorded (to WAV) I
know how I'm going to mix, convert, and ship
it off to the hosting site.

What I'm really looking for are
recommendations for a good (not excellent)
quality mic and soundboard combo.

Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Cheers,
Darci
