Hi
I am a newbie...Bought some gear on recommendation from the pro audio guy at guitar center.

I bought a delta 44 sound card. I bought cakewalk sonar 3.11, i bought tascam gigastudio 96. Also I bought a mixing board Eurorack by behringer.
I have no clue how to hook them up all together. I have a mic i want to put into the mix, when i tried all i could get was sound in one ear. I alsotried to record vocals to a track, but got the sound of the other instruments in it as well. I am totally new at this, could somebody please helpppppppppppp?
thanks

Sounds like you have everything already hooked up correctly and working if you're getting audio into your computer already. As far as the sound coming back to one ear make sure that you are recording to a mono track...not a stereo one. So when you create a new track, just ask for a mono one. Microphone are a mono signal. If that doesn't work, also check your panning on that track.

And are you recording your vocals at the same time you're recording the instrument? If so, you're bound to get some bleeding of other instruments into the microphone. That's how sound works...it bounces everywhere and the microphone picks any sounds near by. The only thing that you can do is minimize the excess sounds. The way you do this is messing around with microphone placement.
1) Don't place the front of the microphone facing any other instrument besides the vocalist
2) If possible keep the vocalist COMPLETELY separated from everyone else (ie. another room)
3) Record the vocalist separate
4) Make sure you're using a cardiod pattern microphone. This way, sounds from behind the microphone will be rejected more.

Good luck.
