i currently only record edited midi song files through an old midi keyboard for backing tracks but want to go the 'soft' route and have more control over the instruments and drums

i'd like each midi file/song to have the same instruments especially a live drum sound so the band sound consistent

i have Sonar LE and have played with VSi's in Cubase LE and tried to assign instruments from Proteus VX with little success - i've looked at VST drums but really don't know where to begin

any advice welcomed

cheers tony

You'll most likely need to edit the MIDI files to make them all use the same instruments. One way would be to convert them to an easier to read text format, edit the Program Change messages, and convert them back to MIDI. There's a pair of free Windows command line programs to do the conversions, MIDI2TXT and TXT2MIDI (or something like that). There may even be easier MIDI editing programs that I don't know about.
