Im fairly new to recording and am working on a demo CD for my band. I would be intrested on what you guys thought of my mix. Drums were tracked using 2 sure omnis, sm57 on the snare, cad kick drum mics, and an alesis dm5 on the kicks. Guitars were recorded with 2 sm57s on the cab, and a j-station with a basic "rectifier" setting. Bass was recorded with just J-station and them "amplitubed". Vocals were recorded with a Sure sm58 ran through a chandler limited TG-2.

I am monitoring with a pair of Event Tria's with sub.

Overall, i am happy with the mix so far, it is just a demo but like i said i would be intrested in hearing what you guys thought.

Here is the link.

Hey Jerry, welcome aboard.
I can't listen to mp3's here at work, but you might want to post this and future music for review in the section "MP3 Mixing Clinic." You'll get a lot more listens there.

Hey Jerry, it sounds good. Happy to see another metalhead around here. I'm pretty new to this whole thing as well.

Let me start by saying that I listened to the mp3 on headphones from my laptop. Probably not the most accurate way to listen to a mix but, I'll give you my impressions. The guitars sound very good. I wouldn't really change anything in that area. The vocals were good as well but, perhaps a bit to upfront. I would bring them down a little. I think the biggest change I would make would be to the drums. The kick specifically is sort of buried in the mix. The sound was pretty good, I would just bring it up a bit. The snare sounds like it could benefit from a bit of compression. It seems like it could use a little more snap.

Again, just my thoughts. There is no right or wrong. Your ears are the greatest tools you have. I hope this helps. Keep it cranked to 11. Peace, Chet

IMHO:

Too much low end on guitars.

Lack of high end on everything makes it seem waxy.

I haven't eq'd hardly anything as of this point, except for i little mids on guitars and a little 10-16k bump on the overheads, i can drop the lows on the guitars. What do you suggest to rid the "waxy" sound?

I am trying to keep in mind its just a demo, but i do want it sounding as good as i can get it.

Thanks for the input so far.

Also ill post it in the mp3 mixing clinic.
