I have recorded a MIDI track into cakewalk Pro Audio 9.03 from a keyboard. When I play it back, the sound comes out of the keyboard, and not my computer. How do I get this to play as a track on my computer? Thanks.

Usualy, there will be reply within minutes here :) But this is weekend, and everybody seems to have their time off (except me, off course :) ) so just be patient a while :)

You don't have to post two thread asking same question here (cross post) it's dissliked by most members here :) They'll be there while have a chance ;)

ps. and Welcome to the Board, bigmedia :)

bigmedia,

What sound card are you using? Some come with the ability to play MIDI sounds, like the Creative series. It sounds like you have the 'out' set to the Cards MIDI out, not to the onboard MIDI Synth.

Porter

It is an e-machine computer with its original sound card and MIDI controller. I previously had this working where the MIDI was recorded through the MIDI connection. I am not sure what you mean by I may "have the 'out' set to the Cards MIDI out, not to the onboard MIDI Synth". Thanks.

Depending on your Sound Card... some have an on board Synthesiser which will play the MIDI notes as audio, instead of sending 0's and 1's to an external MIDI device to play the sounds.

Porter

So basically what Porter means is that if you check Options -> MIDI Devices you'll see one device in the input section and 1 or 2 in the output section.

If you have 1 output, then your soundcard doesen't have an onboard synth. And if you have 2 outputs it probably does.

And basic MIDI let's only data go through the cables. You should hear the keyboard play, not your computer. If you want that, you can either use the sucky synth on the soundcard (if present), or only record it to disk using a audiocable connected to your synth and soundcard.

Yeah - what he said.............

Tell us what you expect or want
Tell us what your hardware is - OPTIONS-MIDI and OPTIONS-AUDIO

What the other posts mean is -

1. What track is ur MIDI recorded on?
2. Look on the left hand side of the screen
3. What is the "OUT" listed as 'pointing' to?
4. Change this to route your recorded MIDI data to a different thing
