Herbi-Whore
I'm just wondering...I've been doing a lot of reading and realize my computer really isn't that great (amd k-6 PII533 MHZ 192 mb ram 20 gig hd no idea speedwise)...I would like to build a nice shiny new one but funds are severly lacking...just wondering if upgradin this thing at all is gonna be worth it??...I'm running win 98se (considering upgrading to xp should i?)...at this point too I havn't bought any programs either actually no i have cubasis 2.0....but I'm more interested in the n-track and fruity loops prgrams...do ya think my comp will handle these two programs as is?...effects wise I have a behringer amp with mega effects so im not concerned about running effects on the comp (i think theyre a pain anyways)...
As well if this is ok to be running on my system I will probably buy the audiophile 24/96...right now ive got the wonderful onboard ess audio soundcard and a recently added sb16:rolleyes: ...anyhow any comments and feedback would be much appreciated

PC requirements are based a lot on what you plan to do. How many tracks, how much processing, etc. If your running into problems, I would recommend just selling your PC and Buying something new as cheap as PC's are these days. Even if you upgrade your processor and stuff in some more memory, there's some things you can't change (buss speed, drive speed, etc.). If your going to upgrade your current PC, I would check into these things first. One of the most important specs is drive speed. If you think about it, your often playing multiple tracks at the same time you're recording more. The slowest thing in your computer is the drive because it's speed is dependant on a motor and it has to read and write lots of data at the same time. You need to first determine what it is you want to accomplish and 2ndly find out what your current "box" will do (ALL specs drive speed, buss speed, processor speed, etc) before you can make a proper decision. If you can post more info I'm sure I/someone can give you better advice.:D

Me again!

I forgot; (also) Windows 98SE is a stable OS and there's no reason I can think of to switch. If you do make sure there are drivers available for your hardware before you make the switch or you'll find yourself with nothing! Also make sure your software will work with XP.
I think you'd be better off saving the money you'd spend on a different OS and putting it into upgrading or buying a new PC. You might also look into some OS optimization. There's plenty of information on the web about how to optimize your PC for use as a DAW. This might be all you need.

thks Monte...ya I think I'm going to need a new comp to do anyhting real here...from what I've read soon this thing will be used for weight in the back of my truck...
