First of all, what is the best brand and type of CD to burn on?

Secondly, how many of you have ever had the problem of running out of space to fit your whole album on a regular 80 Min, 700MB CD?

I have about 66 minutes worth of music. It is 16 bit wav. format and comes in at about 750 MB. I was wondering about using a 90 Min, 800MB CD? Has anyone done this? What noticeable differences are there in burning at different speeds?

Thanks.

Hey there,
First, there is a lot of good media, and most name brand is good stuff, and works in most burners. IE..Memorx, HP, Sony..etc. Some burners do prefer certain brands, so you may have to experiment.

Secondly, are you burning this as an audio cd, or saving it as data? If audio, your program for burning should fit almost a full 80 minutes on an 80 minute cd. I can get 703 meg on one. 66 minutes as cd audio should easily fit, unless you are doing something different, like multisession, or something else.

As far as different speeds, depending on your burner, software and pc, buy the media that is as fast or faster than your burner can handle, and it should just burn at its maximum speed. If you wind up with lots of beer coasters, you may have to slow down the burn process.

Hope this helps you out.

Well, the 60 + Minutes isn't a problem, it's the size of the files. Together, what I want to put on a CD is about 750 MBs. This is audio, straight tracks.

And from what I have seen looking on the internet, the 90 Minute, 800 MB blank CD-Rs only write at X12.

Is this gonna sound considerably different than, say, X48, or whatever the standard is?

Also, some CD players don't play X12, according to them.

Thanks for the information.

Ok, from what I understand, you just need more space. The speed should only matter as you write to the disc. 48x is fast, but not actually 4 times faster than 12x. If you think of it this way, 60 minutes of audio, recorded at 12x should, in theory take 5 minutes to write. (60/12 =5) Just a guestimate of the time, as it is not going to work that way in the real world.

But playback is 1x, when listening to audio. It should sound fine, and your only limitation should be if your home cd player, or the one in your car couldn't play cd's recorded on a computer. Most systems can play CD-r, but some may not. I have actually only had trouble with a cheap system not playing CD-RW. It will even play CD-R. Your best bet is to find some inexpensive, name brand discs, buy a few, and try them in your system, and where you are going to listen to them.
I have heard of issues with 90 minute cd's in that some systems may not handle them as the laser may have tracking issues on the outer portion of the disc. Just buy as few as you need to experiment, and see if they work.

Hope this helps you out.
