Hey guys - new to cubase and new to this forum :)

What I've done is put together a drum track in fruity loops, then exported it as a wav. Then I imported the wav file into an audio track in cubase (SE).

Now what I want to do is record a bass track to a separate audio trace. Everything is fine, except that the track that records the bass also records the drums from the other track... how do I listen to the drums while recording, but record only the bass?

I don't think the details of my setup will make much difference, but for the sake of completeness:

bass->j-station->soundcard line in

The sound isn't great, but the soundcard is only temporary. All i'm trying to do at this point is get the hang of multitracking in cubase.

thanks a lot

Launch the mixer for your soundcard (double click the little speaker by the clock) ... click Options then Properties ... now select Record and click OK.
Make sure that Line In is selected as the recording Input ... Not "stereo mix" or "what you hear" or whatever your soundcard calls it's device for the summing of all inputs. Use only "Line In".

We need a sticky....this has to be the third time this week.

Yeah ... I can't count the number of times I've posted about soundcard setting such as that.
I need a macro :D

.

Open your "vst instruments" panel and select fruity loops from there. I Think it will be called "Fruity VSTi" then a little wrapper will pop up along with a track in your mixer. click on the fruity loops symbol in the wrapper and it will open fruity loops as a vst instrument. In the wrapper will also be a little box to set the pre-count for syncing up fruity loops. Good luck.
