Hi all -

Just wanted to get any thoughts/tips on how this track sounds. Using an MXL R144 Ribbon mic with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface plugged into my Macbook Air. I'm recording in Abelton Live and this is with no augmenting of any sort. Am a beginner so any general tips are appreciated!

PS: Mic is pointed at the 12th fret at a ~45 degree angle on the neck side of the guitar.

Thanks!

First part didn't get recorded for some reason.. but much brighter sounding !

Brighter and louder, the second one sounds better. I'm not crazy about the string noise/rhythm part. Too percussive that close up. Good playing...

If you have a hard surface floor, try angling the back side of the ribbon up at the guitar about 1-2 feet away to start. Play with distance & angle. This might sound funny but I've found the back side of the ribbon tend to be a little brighter and you pick up floor refelections off the front. I know it's a figure 8 and you would think should make no difference but give it a try for yourself. Doesn't work for all ocassions (nothing does) but has been a winner for me at times.
