New Tune before final mix.

I have to say, this is one of the most interesting things I have heard lately.

It took me a minute to put my finger on what it reminds me of...Smash Mouth. Were they an inspiration for you?

Overall, I think it sounds great. It took me a little bit to get into it, but I love it.

The only thing that really sticks out for me is that the song would have a bit more life and feel if more of the elements were real instruments, or real mixed with the synthesized parts you already have (bass and drums). Also, perhaps some sort of pad in the background would fill up some space and bring it all together? Like an organ.

Sorry I don't have more comments for the mix. But honestly it works really well.

Everything sits in its own place and blends really well, nice job.

Thanks,

Appreciate the suggestions. I know who Smash Mouth is but wasnt thinking of anyone when I did it. I was thinking It might sound like something else but wasnt really sure.

Sounds okay. Are there any real instruments in this mix? That's not a knock, I'm just curious. It's hard to tell. It needs more instrumentation of some kind to help fill it out. There's a hole on the left throughout most of the song. And who is Jessica?

The guitars are real, so I guess thats it. Putting something on the right through the verses are a good idea, there are horns there but very low. I think I could do a few things to make it less synthy, a better intro. I cant tell you who Jessica is on the grounds of self incrimination. Yuck Yuck.

Is it Baby Jessica? That kid that fell down the well 20 years ago? :D

Some likeness :p

Cool tune. Catchy too. I liked that synthy vocal thing, that was pretty cool. Of course, my favorite is that purposefully-cheesy-Offspring type guitar tone. That was the hook for me. If the Cars had kids and they had a band, they'd have song like this  ! That's a good thing.:D Greg is on to something though. Unless you want it to sound very sterile, it could use some 'air' being pushed around by something if you want some more life to it.

+1 on the sterile sound. Great great mix though. Sometimes you can take instrument plugins and bus them to aux channels for revrerb, comp and eq. That can warm it up sometimes. I will do that alot with midi drums, piano and such. Seems to help a little. Also a good saturation plug can come in handy at times.
Very nice work!!

i wouldnt change the "sterile" sound at all :o I think it suits it perfectly...I think the mix is clear and balanced but id comment on a couple of things while im here lol

I think the guitar sits on its own..not badly, but very obviously and Im not keen on the kick sample, its fine when its all up and going but not strong enough for the intro imho

but be aware that when folks critique they want to find something sometimes, I thought this is your best one so far

this is a great little tune, I think Ive said before you remind me of TV on the radio...and not to offend but this reinforces it, which is no bad thing. Dear Science is one of the best albums Ive heard in the last few years

really good song/mix Pete

Cool tune, nice words.

Nice change at 1:10 to a Alan Parsons / Beach Boys sound.

I like it.

.

hahaha yeah that part sounds like summer camp 1968 or something, bizzare but it works as a bridge so there it is.

Thanks Keith,
Really appreciate your input, I gotta look into some better kick sounds, maybe you can help me, I agree its OK during the song but pretty bland on its own.

Very interesting and well done PDP. The bit I want to change is the bass, it sounds boxy and I want it to have more slam/agro top.

I have a ton of samples..Ill have a fiddle around later and see if I can come up with something...would you have a download of the song so I can fiddle around with it? maybe come up with a dozen samples and you could audition them??

edit: on the other hand maybe just layering another on top at the intro would strengthen it within turning the rest of the track into a "club" tune
