This is a joint I wrote a while back and just decided to record and drop let me know what you guys think.....For some reason Soundclick slowed my track down so ill drop the Myspace link

www.myspace.com/thafamillyfyre

Yo Fyre ya tracks are nice, but u might wanna check into gettin a better mic, or maybe some soundproofing cuz the mic kinda sounds a little distorted meaning: when i was listening and u were flowing i heard u say yea in the backround and it was really loud and distorted if u have a good condensor mic it won't do that it will keep it smooth and make it sound real professional, but other than that ya shit is FIRE!!!!! haha peace playa get back at me

i got a condenser dont know how good it is.... on the stand up track i wasnt using a condenser tho..... i was on keep going...... I think a big part of the problem is that I have to record in my college dorm room so theres not much i could do for soundproofing here... any suggestions

now that I listen again I hear what your talking about on the track Stand up its really distorted...... im about to record it over again cause when i did this i was using a dynamic mic, with a bery mixer, and no soundcard........ my setup is a little better now so the results should be also.....

If you are pushed for cash like I am goin to school and shit you can do shit ghetto and get away with it for example. you know that "pop" sound you get when you use that dynamic mic? it sounds like that when u say the letter "p" or something similar? well if you put a tube sock over the mic you can spit into it loud and clear and play it back and you will see there is hardly any distortion at all!!! Theres a couple other tricks I know that you can do without spending any cash just to make it sound a little better

im using a condenser now so the distortion aint so much of a problem now........

ight yo post that shit up and let me know when i can hear it

aight I got u....... i thought i would do it this weekend but i aint get a chance

If your in a dorm, it'll be hard to "treat" not sound proof the room, that'd be impossible. But you can hang up some heavy blankets, clothing or whatever you can to kill some of the reflections lol.. if you have to, use the mattresses :D . Your room shouldn't be causing distortion however, that would fall back on your mic technique and gear. You can also pick up some OC 703 fiberglass which can be very useful for tracking and mixing given your in a dorm, it's very temporary.

For your plosives "P's, B's etc...", that's all proper mic placement and technique as well, if you go back to that dynamic mic for any reason you shouldn't put a sock over it because that'll affect your sound more than it seems. It'll kill some of your higher freqs. too IMO.

Yo Fyre. You doing your thing, man. Your technical stuff could be WAY better... I mean, mixing and vocal processing... But as far as mic skill, you going your thing. Keep lacing em, fam.

props on the last two post..... thats what im here for change lol trying to learn all i can about mixing and stuff like that...... i've gotten a lot better since i been here so im still learning....... Im going to have to try the heavy blankets and mattress thing tho...... i can find both of those easy...... and in large quantity lol

what type of condenser mic do you have?

you def..got a killa style..track are nice..need to here you on some original bbeats..to match your style..ggod work..keep grindin

The sock over the mic idea is really a bad one but right now i got a cheap dynamic mic and it sounded "tinny" so i put the sock over it and it took that away, i'm lookin at amxl990 condensor mic if anyone has this or has used it post ur thoughts on wether i should buy it or not i mean right now it's only 60 bux so u really can't go wrong i guess

I have read good reviews on the MXL 990 never used it..but im in the market for a mic to complete my home studio..so I can record anyone when they come over..

right now im lookin at the:

KEL HM-1
MXL 990 or V63M
Studi Projects C1

right now i got the AKG perception 100 going through a Audio Buddy preamp into a EMU 0404.... i think my biggest problem is that I have no monitors and my room i record and mix in.......

do you have a pop filter for your mic/..

i was just looking at that mic, it sound good..to me anyway...

and where do you have the mic stet up in your room..and witch way do you record(facing the open side of the room or toward the wall)..

yea i got a popfilter...... the song keep going is the one i recorded with the condenser and the popfilter.....

I place the mic kind close to the wall and I face out into the room... if u can picture what I mean....... I like the quality of the mic myself.... then again its also my first condenser..... as far as me getting on some original beats im working on that..... i used to get a lot of beats and never spit on other people stuff but all the producers I know are getting signed and charging a lot more then i got now so im working on my own beats......

i think you should try facing toward wall instead of out in the room and see how that goes..that way you can have a heavy blanket or bedding in the corner for your sound proofin..jumy my $0.02.. since it is a small room..and maybe a have a step back from where you usely stand or sit when recording..

ill try that out.... when i record im about 6-8 inches away from the mic with the pop filter about half way between me and the mic...... ill try that...... probly this afternoon when i get out of class

it should help with the psss and ssss a little bit better..
