new to this stuff

here's the deal: i play the hell out of guitar, have a laptop computer. i am about to get cool edit pro, just to record some stuff. how will I plug my guitar into the laptop, which doesn't have a "guitar hole" or whatever you call it. can someone lead me in the right direction?

Well if it doesn't have a "guitar hole" what does it have? An 1/8" line in I'm guessing? You could just get an adaptor for your instrument cable and plug into that. Don't expect it to sound very good though.
Surely you don't only want to record a direct guitar? What other kind of gear do you have?

got a zoom 505II
