IS there any way to preview a full mix of all the tracks including all the virtual tracks and stuff...?

how does that work now .. do i have ot bounce all the tracks down to 8 to do a complete mix down ???

if so that seems a bit qweer to me ... but maybe iam not understanding anything ...

The effects saved to user patches are global, insofar that you can use the same tweaked patch on any song you choose.

Have you sorted out your back up plans yet?

I never would have expected this thread to go to 2 pages.

Yet another example of the excitement generated in this forum. ;)

what do you mean by back up plans??? Like what to do if something doesnt go the way i want. or just back all my tracks up externally?

I always make kickass threads where ever i go. hahaha. no i find this to be an extremely useful resource. and its come in handy by not discouraging me. if that. makes any sence.

it also brings to light that i cant type worth a shit.

so yea .... i found a preview thing in the manual ... but does this allow me to hear EVERYTHING i have recorded on all tracks including the virutal? as it stands as a current mix.

I mean i am extatic i can be billy corgan and do 40+ guitar tracks now .. but how do i hear all of them together??? i can only listen to so many at one time.

but will this preview option allow me ot hear all my shit all together at once as they are. ??

and also if this is the case. am i correct in assuming that when i get ready to do a final mix everything has to be bounced and mixed down to 8 tracks.

If you could hear all 40 tracks at the same time, you probably would have paid a bit more for the unit. Virtual tracks are "virtual" tracks. 6 or 8 tracks are all you will hear. :o

I mean what are going to use to back up your data. Or are you just gonna erase everything everytime your hard drive fills up?

so that being said .. if record say 20 some tracks ... when i do the final mix down i have to track bounce all my shit to the 8 real tracks correct????

as far as backing up stuff.. i think my work has a few old zip drives kicking around .. and lucky for my sys admin position i might do a bit of house cleaning ... and should i find a few extra ones ...... ill post it here in the off chance anyone needs one ???? cool eh!!!!

that is if any old zip drive will work on the 880EX. i know that there is only one kind of cd burner you can use. ... how bout zip drives ?????

SCSI zip drives will work, but they are only, what, 100megs? If you try to use anything other than a SCSI, you will fry your 880EX.

Also, there are a number of CD-RWs that are compatible with the 880EX. Look up Hook's FAQs at the Planet. I believe there are a few Plextor models that are compatible, and, trust me, you are going to want one. I've seen too many people lose data with Zip drives, and Jazz drives, etc.

Don't say I didn't tell ya so!

SCSI zip drives .. do the iomega ones fall under this catergory? I do have an iomoega one at work i have access too......

and how rare are these plextor jobies.

There used to be external CD burners purpose made for the VS,also there were some third party standalones that used to work also. You could probably get that info at VSplanet.

I've used VS for pretty much the last 8 years, started with an 840, on 880 now. There will be a way to do nearly everything you want but it is a surprisingly complicated piece of kit. If you know what you're doing, the end results can be excellent; my old band was signed on demos done on VS. Like the other guys have said, you might need some extra gear, certainly a pre-amp, and a CD writer (I used a DAT recorder with mine)

The way to approach it is this: see it as a glorified 4-track. With the old 4-tracks, bouncing was the key, and it's exactly the same with the Roland (except digital). Start off with the best quality of sound you can get, nice strong clear signals, and go from there.

Best of luck

Awesome i love it so far .. but i have a few effects issues which i will post outside of here .
